While Golden State swept right through the Western Conference, many expected Cleveland to do the same. The Celtics, however, had other ideas, upsetting the Cavaliers in Game 3 on the Cav's own home court. That momentum was short-lived, and Cleveland bounced back to win Game 4, 112-99. The Warriors are still waiting in the NBA Finals, but Cleveland will need to win Game 5 in Boston if they want to clinch the Eastern Conference Finals and get a little rest before heading to Golden State for Game 1 on June 1. ... When the Spurs opened up a 44-19 lead in Game 1 in Oakland, all talks of the Warriors sweeping their way to the NBA Finals were being put on hold. Of course, the rest is history. Kawhi Leonard was injured with his team up 23 and the squad could not hold off Golden State down the stretch. Leonard has not played since, and neither really, has San Antonio. After Saturday night's 120-108 win, Golden State now leads the best-of-seven series 3-0, and will be looking to go for the jugular on Monday night in the Lone Star State. Leonard is not likely to play again, and the Warriors seem to be in prime position to win their third consecutive Western Conference Championship. ... Read More

In case you were hiding under a rock and did not hear, Cleveland beat the living snot out of Boston in Game 2 on Friday night. In the 130-86 victory, the Cavaliers led by as much as 50, set an NBA playoff record by leading by 41 points at the break, and a franchise record for total points. That was with the team resting all of their starters in the fourth quarter. After the beat down, the line for Game 3 moved from -5.5 to -14.5, which seems like it should be some sort of record as well. A year ago, everybody could not wait for the highly anticipated matchup between these two record-setting squads.  Golden State had just won 72 games and set the NBA regular season record for the most wins.  San Antonio went 39-2 at home, tying the Association's record for the best home record in league history.  The Spurs would end up falling to the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference Semifinals, which prevented the bit-time matchup everybody looked forward to.  For what it's worth, the Warriors would have to ultimately overcome a 3-1 deficit to defeat the Thunder before themselves blowing a 3-1 lead to get Golden State in the Finals against Cleveland.  The Warriors won two of the three meetings this year.  These teams are all knotted up in the playoffs, with five wins apiece, but San Antonio has dominated the overall series 111-62. ... There is an old saying that goes, "It's not a series until a team loses on their own homecourt." It is a stupid saying, but if that's the case, then the Eastern Conference Semifinals between the Celtics and Wizards, is still not a series. After two victories in Boston, the Celtics went to the nation's capital and dropped two straight to the Wizards, both convincingly. In Sunday's contest, Washington easily prevailed, 121-102, to even up the best-of-seven series at two games apiece. Boston still leads the all-time postseason series 11-8, and the overall series 201-118. ... Read More

The Warriors are just doing their thang. Since beginning the playoffs, they have stream-rolled through seven games and seem to be on a collision course with their nemesis, the Cleveland Cavaliers, who are now 8-0 during the National Basketball Association playoffs. There was initial talk of Golden State going 16-0, but maybe now some are wondering if the Cavs might be on that path, considering they are the defending NBA Champs and all, and did beat the Warriors in last year's finals. The reality is, they may be on a collision course, but neither team is likely to complete this postseason without defeat. Meanwhile, Golden State owns a 3-0 lead against Utah in their best-of-seven series in the Western Conference Semifinals. The winner of this series will be facing off with the victory in the Spurs-Rockets series in the Western Conference Finals. ... Read More
