Point Spread: Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders -7.5
The Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders are hosting the Marshall Thundering Herd in this clash between two conference rivals. Both of these teams are undefeated in their Conference-USA schedules. The Blue Raiders are 13-3 this season, and they’re 3-0 in C-USA play. Meanwhile, the Thundering Herd is 11-6. Marshall has managed to win their first four games in their conference slate. Which team will suffer their first conference loss of the season on Thursday night?
Marshall picked up their fourth conference win of the season by beating the Charlotte 49ers in an 110-93 victory. The Thundering Herd were led by Jon Elmore and Ryan Taylor. Elmore poured in a game-high 29 points to go with 10 assists, 4 rebounds, and 2 steals. Taylor also had a double-double. He posted 24 points, 14 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, and a block. Austin Loop also had a nice game. Loop connected on 5 three-pointers in the win.
The Thundering Herd’s offense was incredibly impressive in the win over Charlotte. They made over 52% of their shots. The Herd were even better from beyond the arc. They made nearly 55% of their three-point attempts. Marshall has been the highest scoring team in the C-USA this season. The Thundering Herd are putting up 90 points per game this season.
The Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders picked up a nice 79-68 win over the North Texas Mean Green. Giddy Potts led the way for the Blue Raiders. Potts scored 18 points to lead Middle Tennessee in scoring. He also added 6 rebounds and an assist to his statline. Jacorey Williams had a double-double in the win. Williams posted 16 points, 10 rebounds, 2 blocks, and 2 steals in the victory over the Mean Green.
Middle Tennessee actually struggled to shoot the ball in the win over North Texas. The Blue Raiders made just 42% of their shots from the field. Additionally, they only hit 35% of their attempts from outside the three-point line. The Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders have actually been one of the C-USA’s best offenses. They’re second in field goal percentage, hitting nearly 48% of their shots from the field this season. The Blue Raiders also have the fewest turnovers in the conference.

Both of these teams have a lot of momentum heading into this game, but Marshall’s high scoring offense puts them on a different level. The Thundering Herd have been averaging nearly 98 points per game in their last five outings. Marshall’s last two losses were within 6 points, and they came on the road against Pittsburgh and #23 Cincinnati. Meanwhile, Middle Tennessee’s offense hasn’t looked all that impressive. They’re averaging less than 64 points per game in their last four contests at home. I’m not sure that Marshall can pull off the upset, but this one will be very close. I’m taking the points on Thursday night.
