Southern Miss improved to 2-1 in Conference USA after beating UTEP on Saturday, 73-65. ODU rebounded from an overtime loss to Marshall on Thursday to beat Western Kentucky on the road, 79-67 on Saturday. Last season, Southern Miss beat Old Dominion at home, 73-71.
Southern Miss took a 39-31 lead to halftime and held serve the rest of the way to beat UTEP by eight on Saturday. Quinton Campbell led the Golden Eagles with 24 points and 10 rebounds on 8-of-13 shooting. Cortez Edwards added 17 points on 7-of-9 shooting. Southern Miss shot 46.3 percent from the field and made 7 of 17 from three-point range. They also forced 16 turnovers from UTEP and held them to just 5-of-23 (21.7%) from beyond the arc. Guard Khari Price struggled from the field, missing all eight of his shot attempts to finish with just one point.
Campbell leads the way for Southern Miss with 12.3 points per game, while Edwards adds 9.4 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game. Southern Miss averages just 61.8 points per game (344) and shoots 40.5 percent from the field (332). They allow 71.8 points per game and 43.6 percent from the field.
Zoran Talley scored 23 points on 10-of-14 shooting, while B.J. Stith added 22 points to lead ODU over Western Kentucky on Saturday. Stith stepped up with his brother Brandan (11.3ppg, 8.0rpg) out with a sprained ankle. OSU shot 50.9 percent from the field and 6-of-15 (40%) from beyond the arc. They also outrebounded the Hilltoppers, 41-27 and held them to just 35.7 percent from the field.
Guard Ahmad Caver leads the Monarchs in scoring with 12.7 points per game but shoots just 32.5 percent from the field. Talley added 11.3 points on 43.4 percent shooting. B.J. Stith adds 8.3 points and shoots 34.1 percent from the field. ODU is shooting just 37.9 percent from the floor (343) and 30.1 percent from three-point range (326). Their defense is off the charts as they allow just 59.1 points per game (5th) and just 39.2 percent from the field (31st).

Southern Miss will cover this game because ODU is not likely to shoot 50 percent again from the field. They are also expected to be without Brandan Stith again, which will hurt.
