Charlotte vs. Old Dominion
NCAA Basketball: Saturday, February 18th, 7:00 pm EST
Line: ODU -9.5
The Charlotte 49ers head to Old Dominion to take on the Monarchs on Saturday night in a Conference USA battle. The 49ers have lost four of five and have dropped back in the standings. Once in the middle of the pack, they have dropped down to 10th at 5-8 in conference. They are 11-13 overall. Old Dominion has been drastically better than Charlotte, coming in at 8-5 in conference and in third place. They beat UAB on Saturday to end a two game losing streak.
Against the spread, both teams have struggled this year. The 49ers are only 8-13-1 overall ATS and a pathetic 3-8 ATS on the road. Old Dominion isn’t much better, coming in at 10-13 overall and 4-7 at home.
Although, they haven’t been playing well lately, the 49ers can take the confidence that they have a win over ODU into Saturday’s contest. The game was back on January 21st, and the 49ers pulled out a last second victory. Jon Davis hit the game winner with .2 seconds left on the clock, on his way to a career high 35 points.
The sophomore guard couldn’t miss that night, making 11 of 19 from the field and 10 of 11 from the free throw line. He made three three-pointers and also pitched in with five rebounds, four assists, two steals, and a rebound. Quite a game for Mr. Davis.
Old Dominion ended a pretty impressive streak on Saturday, although it wasn’t one of their own. They beat UAB 83-62 which ended the Blazers 25 game home conference winning streak. The fact that they hand’t lost in 25 games at home in C-USA and then the Monarchs come in and win by 21 is astounding. You would figure after a streak like that, the first loss would at least be a close game.
Ahmad Caver and B.J. Stith made sure it was a blowout. Caver ended with 23 points, and pitched in eight assists and five rebounds as well. Stith more than pitched in, finishing with 16 points, 10 rebounds, and four assists.

I didn’t come in to this game with a huge opinion other way. But when I saw that the 49ers are 3-14 in their last 17 road games, my mind was made up. That is a long stretch to be that bad on the road. Plus, the big win over UAB should help carry over to this game, and I think the Monarchs take advantage early.
