CBI Tournament Championship Series Game Three: Friday March 31, 2017 at 7:00pm EST

Line: Wyoming -8.5

Total: 153

The Wyoming Cowboys will collide with the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers in the deciding game three of the CBI Tournament Championship series Friday night from the Auditorium in Laramie, WY. Coastal Carolina collected a 91-81 home win over Wyoming in game one on Monday night, and Wyoming responded with an 81-57 home win in game two to force a third and deciding game three.

Coastal Carolina Goes Cold in Game Two Loss

The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers could not get very many shots to fall in their 81-57 loss in game two on Wednesday night. The Chanticleers shot an abysmal 31% from the field and went 5 for 26 from beyond the arc. Coastal Carolina only had two players reach double-digits in points with Elijah Wilson recording ten points on 4 for 14 shooting. The senior guard has shot 33% or lower in four out of his last five games, and is now averaging 13.3 points per game. Chanticleers leading scorer Jaylen Shaw had a rough night, going 2 for 9 from the field for only four points. The senior guard had scored 15 or more points in his first four CBI contests and is now averaging 14.4 points per game. It was quite the disparity in performance from Coastal Carolina from game one to two, shooting 47% in game one compared to their weak 31% shooting on Wednesday night. The Chanticleers have struggled on the road all year but will need to find another gear to have a chance in this one. Coastal Carolina is currently ranked 200th overall in Ken Pomeroy’s College Basketball Rankings.

The Chanticleers are now scoring an average of 73 points per game, ranking them 173rd overall, and are shooting 42.5% as a team. Coastal Carolina is conceding an average of 73 points per game, placing them 203rd overall.

Cowboys Three-Point Shooting Comes Through in Game Two

The Wyoming Cowboys played dazzling defense in their 81-57 rout of Coastal Carolina in game two to force a final game three. Wyoming shot 45% on the night and went 12 for 31 from beyond the arc in the victory. Justin James was tremendous, going 8 for 13 from the field for a total of 21 points. The 6-foot-7 sophomore guard has now scored 19 or more points in four of five games in the CBI Tournament and is now averaging a team-leading 16 points per game. Alexander Aka Gorski came off the bench with a tremendous effort, going a sizzling 5 for 7 from three-point range, finishing the night with 17 points. The junior guard had only scored a combined nine points in the CBI Tournament prior to Wednesday night and is now averaging 7.7 points per game. The Cowboys played much better defense in this one after allowing Coastal Carolina to shoot 47% in game one. This time around they out-rebounded the Chanticleers 45-36, and it will definitely help their cause to rebound the ball well again in this one, as rebounding is Coastal Carolina’s greatest strength. Wyoming is currently ranked 137th overall in Ken Pomeroy’s College Basketball Rankings.

The Cowboys feature a strong offense, now averaging 77.8 points per game, ranking them 69th overall, and are shooting 43.7% from the field. Wyoming is allowing an average of 75 points per game, placing them 246th overall.

The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers are:

  • 1-5 ATS in their last 6 road games.
  • 0-4 ATS in their last 4 Friday games.
  • 1-4 ATS in their last 5 road games against a team with a home winning percentage greater than .600.

The Wyoming Cowboys are:

  • 4-0 ATS in their last 4 home games.
  • 7-1 ATS in their last 8 home games against a team with a winning record.
  • 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games overall.

I am going with Wyoming again in this contest. Wyoming dominated Coastal Carolina in both ends of the court in game two, and  I expect to see another big win against a Coastal Carolina team that is now a weak 3-11 on the road this season. Coastal Carolina has not defended the three well in the first two games as Wyoming hit 13 three’s in game one and 12 three-pointers in the game two win, and I don’t see that changing in this one. Wyoming also out-rebounded Coastal Carolina in game two and if they do so again it will make it very difficult for the Chanticleer to have success in this contest. Wyoming is the stronger offensive team and they are a dominant 18-3 at home this season, so I expect them to win the CBI Tournament with a convincing victory.

Pick: Wyoming Cowboys -8.5
