Less than three weeks ago, the NCAA Tournament began with 68 teams chasing a national title: we’re now down to two. The Gonzaga Bulldogs seek their first national championship in school history as they face the North Carolina Tar Heels, who are looking for their sixth national crown, in the NCAA Championship Monday night. Gonzaga advanced by edging South Carolina 77-73 in one national semifinal Saturday. North Carolina’s margin of victory was even slimmer as they slipped past Oregon 77-76 in the other national semifinal. The teams split two previous meetings, with North Carolina rolling to a 98-77 win in the Sweet 16 of the 2009 tournament on March 27, 2009 in the last matchup. The fourth-seeded Horned Frogs of TCU will take on the sixth-seeded Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in the NIT finals on Thursday night. These two teams were unable to claim a spot in the Big Dance, but an NIT Championship would be a pretty good consolation prize. Georgia Tech has looked very impressive during the tournament, but they're still underdogs in this one. The favored TCU Horned Frogs have had a few close games during the NIT, but they've won their last two by double-digits. ... Read More

If the CSU Bakersfield Roadrunners were an NCAA Tournament team they would probably be featured on ESPN every single day. As it is, the eighth-seeded Roadrunners will just have to ride their momentum into Madison Square Garden on Tuesday night when they do battle with the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, who supposedly come from the best conference in America (although the NCAA tourney would say otherwise). The Final Four of the National Invitational Tournament is really not a bad gig here for either team. Not surprisingly, these schools have not ever met on the hardwood, but a victory here would certainly go a long way for each program.... Read More
