The Richmond Spiders and Old Dominion Monarchs were former rivals back in the Colonial Athletic Association, but the Spiders are now in the A-10, while ODU is in Conference USA. The Miami (OH) Redhawks travel an hour northeast to take on their in-state foe, the Wright State Raiders. Both teams' commenced their respective seasons' with victories. Miami (OH) trounced the Division-III Muskingum Fighting Muskies 84-57, while Wright State won a close one on the road, 85-81, at the always pesky Southern Illinois Salukis. Both squads opened up their season on Friday night with varying results. Ball State took on Saint Louis and despite being just a 3.5 point favorite, the Cardinals cruised to an easy 85-64 win over the Billikens. Indiana State was on the road as well, entering their matchup with Northern Illinois as a 6.5 point underdog but actually taking the Huskies to overtime before succumbing 80-78. These two schools have been playing on the hardwood for a long time with the Sycamores holding a 72-58 all-time advantage.
