Point Spread: Florida Atlantic Owls -5
The Florida Atlantic Owls don’t have to travel far for this week’s game. They’ll face off with their in-state rivals, the Florida International Golden Panthers. Both of these teams have struggled this season. The Owlsare 1-3 after four games. Meanwhile, the Golden Panthers are still winless after their first four contests. Will Florida International finally get a win in this Sunshine State showdown?
Florida Atlantic had a comfortable 14-0 lead against the Ball State Cardinals in the first quarter. However, they were dominated in the final three quarters of the game, losing to Ball State, 31-27. Kalib Woods had an impressive game in the home loss. Woods had 4 catches for 108 yards and a touchdown. The Owls are hoping that Woods can find the end zone once again in this matchup with the Golden Panthers.
The Florida International Golden Panthers played host to the Central Florida Knights last week, and they struggled in a 53-14 blowout loss. The next day, FIU decided to fire head coach Ron Turner. The GoldenPanthers only picked up 11 first downs in the loss, and their offense gained a pitiful 189 yards. Anthony Jones had some success against Central Florida’s defense. The sophomore running back managed to score a touchdown on just eight carries. The Panthers are hoping that their offense will find a way to move the ball against Florida Atlantic in this one.

Both of these clubs have had a tough time early on this season. The Owls and the Golden Panthers have faced off against superior opponents just about every week. However, Florida International will be at home, and this will be one of the first games they have a real chance of winning. They should play hard for interim coach Ron Cooper, who was the team’s defensive coordinator. The Golden Panthers beat the Owls 38-10 the last time Florida Atlantic visited FIU Stadium, and I think the Panthers will win a close game on Saturday. I’m taking the points in this one.
