Has The Undertaker Taken His "Last Ride"?

The Undertaker, whose real name is Mark Callaway, recently did a five-part series on the WWE Network, called “The Last Ride”. At Wrestlemania 36, The Undertaker and A.J Styles had a Boneyard Match, which was epic and critically acclaimed. Was that match the Undertaker’s “Last Ride?”. It very well could have been as Mr. Callaway announced in part five of that series, that he just doesn’t have the desire to return any more.

That was a shocking and sad statement for the WWE Universe to hear. The Undertaker has been thrilling fans around the world for 30 years in the WWE and it will be a shame to see him go but we do note that he is 55 years old. It is time for him to step down. The Undertaker has not been wrestling as much as he did earlier in his career and has been used for mainly just Wrestlemania over the last several years. He has been in other matches but not nearly as many as in his heyday.

The Undertaker has won seven singles titles between WWF and WWE and he has one tag title that he got with Kane (Glen Jacobs), who was portrayed by WWE as his brother. They are not brothers in real life. Taker also owns one of the most impressive win streaks in all of sports and that took place at Wrestlemania. He had a 21-0 win streak at the event before eventually losing to Brock Lesnar at Wrestlemania 30.

That was a very interesting Wrestlemania as the Undertaker was slated to win the match before Vince McMahon changed the outcome on the day of the event. The Undertaker did suffer a concussion during that match and he has said that he doesn’t have a memory of the loss. The Undertaker also has stated that he has no regrets on how the streak ended and who ended it.

"Obviously, in Vince's mindset, if it's not Brock, then who?" Calaway said. "My biggest concern was I just wanted to make sure that [McMahon] was sure and that's what he wanted to do. I didn't feel like Brock needed it. Brock was already a huge star, and it wasn't going to help him one way or another. My only concern was there might have been someone down the line that could have benefitted from it more and that probably would've been Roman later on.

"That's with hindsight being 20/20. But if I was going to get beat by someone, Brock was a guy who had the credentials, I think, to do it and people would be like, 'Um, OK, s---, that's Brock Lesnar.' That was my biggest deal. I just wanted to make sure that's really what [McMahon] had wanted to do."The Undertaker

The legendary WWE star, who first appeared with the company at the 1990 Survivor Series, was just involved in a boneyard match with A.J Styles at Wrestlemania 36. It was an epic clash of two of the sports' greatest of all time. The match did not take place in a ring but in the set of a cemetery. It took all day to film and used some special effects, druids, and magic within the show, In the end, the Undertaker won the match by burying AJ in a grave to move to 25-2 in the Show of Shows over his career. He then got on his motorcycle and rode off. It was the perfect way for him to end his career as he stated on the final episode of the Last Ride on Sunday.

"If there was ever a perfect ending to a career, that right there was it. If Vince was in a pinch, would I come back? I guess time will only tell there. In case of emergency, break glass, you pull out The Undertaker. I would have to consider that. Never say never, but at this point in my life and in my career I have no desire to get back in the ring."

The Undertaker did state that he will never say never about a return. If Vince is in a pinch, he may consider it in the future but Mark Callaway just doesn’t have the desire to get back into the ring at this point. We know it would happen at some point but it still is sad for all of us, who are fans of the Dead Man.
