UFC 272: Masvidal vs Covington - Card Preview - 3/5/22

Well if you’re going to have a PPV card with no belts on the line then this is the way to do it. In the main event slot we have the ultimate grudge match between former teammates, Colby Covington and Jorge Masvidal. Both men are coming off defeats at the hands of current welterweight champ, Kamaru Usman. In fact, Masvidal and Covington had two chances to win the welterweight title from Usman but came away empty handed both times. With title aspirations periodically dashed, this grudge match makes a lot of sense for both guys.

In the co-main slot we have the battle of the Rafaels that we were supposed to get a couple weeks ago before Fiziev ran into visa issues. That should be a great fight between two very well rounded fighters in a bit of a prospect vs veteran matchup. Fiziev is fresh off a spinning wheel kick KO over Brad Riddell in December, whereas dos Anjos has been on the sidelines since his split decision victory over Paul Felder back in November of 2020. He was scheduled to face Islam Makhachev twice but the bouts fell through. UFC has decided to continue with sticking dos Anjos against top prospects in the lightweight division as Fiziev has won 5 straight.

Edit: Fiziev has contracted Covid and will not be fighting RDS. He's been replaced by Renato Moicano.

This card is pretty stacked up actually and I’m generally looking forward to almost every fight here. Plenty of name power and great match ups. Check out the lineup below!

Ever since renting my first UFC VHS at my local video store, I’ve been in love with the sport of MMA. I’ve watched every single fight that has ever taken place under the UFC banner over the past 25 years. Once I started doing incredibly well in fantasy leagues, I realized I could utilize my skills in fight analytics to make a profit on betting. My obsession with researching every aspect of a fight gave me a real edge in finding value. Since then, it's been one profitable year after the next. Watching your favorite sport is good, but getting paid while watching your favorite sport is better.
