Week 13 NFL Betting Recap
We’re winding down on a long NFL season that has certainly had its ups and down. How many starting quarterbacks remain? We’re still seeing some ridiculous calls at the end of games and during them. Seven teams are 6-6, but who would have thought Buffalo was going to be one of those teams? Let’s take a look at Week 13.
Thursday, November 30
Seattle (+9.5.47.5) over DALLAS 35-41
Dak Prescott threw three TD passes and CeeDee Lamb caught 12 passes for 116 yards, but the Cowboys’ defense was lacking in their 41-35 win over Seattle. Geno Smith had a strong game for the Seahawks with three TDs, all to DK Metcalf. The Seahawks are still in the hunt at 6-6, but they’ve now lost three straight games.
Sunday, Dec. 3
Atlanta (-1.5/32.5) over NY JETS
The Jets had a predictably bad performance from Trevor Sieman and Tim Doyle, who was cut after the game. It’s back to Zach Wilson for Robert Saleh’s team who had 197 yards passing and 62 yards rushing. Atlanta just did enough offensively as Desmond Ridder (12 of 27 for 121 yards) was dreadful but had a TD pass and did not throw a pick. Yay!
Miami (-8.5/49.5) over WASHINGTON 45-15
Another predictably awful game as the Dolphins just steamrolled a Washington team that just fired their DC and DB coach. Tua Tagovailoa threw for 280 yards and 157 to Tyreek Hill, who is a sleeper MVP pick. Miami has now won three straight and at 9-3, is tied for the lead in the AFC with Baltimore. Sam Howell rushed for two TDs for Washington but threw a pick-six.
Detroit (-3.5./47.5) over NEW ORLEANS 33-28
The Lions nearly blew this cover after opening with a 21-0 first-quarter lead. The Saints nearly pulled it off as Derek Carr threw for 226 yards and a TD with a pick. He also left in the fourth quarter with a concussion and shoulder and back issues. Jared Goff passed for 213 yards, while rookie tight end Sam LaPorta caught nine passe for 140 yards. The Lions are in the thick of things in the NFC at 9-3, while the 5-7 Saints have lost three straight and are slipping away. Jameis Winston starts this week if Carr can’t go.
LA Chargers (-5.5/38.5) over NEW ENGLAND 6-0
It just keeps getting worse for New England (2-10), who shut down a pretty good Chargers offense. The Pats actually outgained the Chargers 257-241. The Chargers had five sacks and that’s what saved them. Other than that, they are ordinary and stuck in neutral, while the Pats are just plain bad.
Arizona (+6.5/43.5) over PITTSBURGH 24-10
Mike Tomlin called it a “JV performance” in Monday’s press conference. He might have been being nice about the Steelers horrific performance at home on Sunday. QB Kenny Pickett suffered an ankle injury in the second quarter and did not return. There were two weather delays, so there’s that. Kyler Murray threw for 145 yards, but it was James Conner who did in his old team with 105 yards rushing and two TDs. The Steelers are 7-5 now and in trouble with Mitch Trubisky at quarterback. If they can’t run the football, they really struggle to score.
HOUSTON (-2.5/46.5) over Denver 22-17
Just give DeMeco Ryans the Coach of the Year award now and CJ Stroud Rookie of the Year. They needed a last-second pick from Jimmie Ward in the end zone to allow the Texans to jump to 7-5. They also halted Denver’s five-game winning streak. The story for Houston was WR Nico Collins, who caught nine passes for 191 yards. Unfortunately for Houston, they also lost rookie WR Tank Dell to a season-ending leg injury.
Indianapolis (-2.5/44.5) over TENNESSEE 31-28ot
The Colts just found a way in this one. Derrick Henry ran all over them for 102 yards and two scores before leaving a potential concussion in the fourth quarter. Rookie Will Levis threw for 224 yards and a TD. But Gardner Minshew found a way with 312 yards and two scores. That included a 55-yard pass to Alex Pierce to set up the winning TD in overtime. The 7-5 Colts are in playoff position in the AFC.
TAMPA BAY (-3.5/36.5) over Carolina 21-18
Tampa Bay is 5-7 for a reason. They are just not that good, but found a way to edge a terrible Carolina team, because they have Mike Evans and the Panthers don’t. The big receiver caught 7 passes for 162 yards and a TD to help Baker Mayfield beat one of his former teams. Rookie QB Bryce Young struggled again with 178 yards on 15 of 31 passing with a pick. Chuba Hubbard was strong with 104 yards and two TD on 25 rushing attempts.
LA RAMS (-3.5/39.5) over Cleveland 36-19
It was Matthew Stafford vs. Joe Flacco. Was this 2014? Stafford threw for 279 yards and three TDs, while Kyren Williams rushed for 88 yards and a TD. Rookie WR Puka Nacua had 139 yards of total offense and a receiving TD as the Rams improved to 6-6. Flacco did well until the end when he threw a pick with the Brown trailing 20-19 in the fourth quarter. The 38-year-old completed 23 of 44 for 254 yards with two TDS and a pick.
San Francisco (-3/46.5) over PHILADELPHIA 42-19
Is there a better team than the 49ers right now? Is there a quarterback playing better than Brock Purdy? That last statement is tough to type because Deebo Samuels makes good quarterbacks look great. But you have to give credit to a guy who the last guy draft and is very accurate. He threw for 314 yards and four TDs against the Eagles, not the Panthers. Samuel caught four passes for 116 yards with two receiving TDs and one rushing TD. Christian McCaffrey had 133 total yards as the Niners outgained the Eagles 456-333. Jalen Hurts passed for 298 yards with a TD and a rushing TD.
GREEN BAY (+6/43.5) over Kansas City 27-19
Jordan Love might not be Brock Purdy, but he’s becoming a very good QB in Green Bay. More importantly, he has the Packers back in the NFC playoff race at 6-6 after throwing for 267 yards and three TDs against a pretty good Chiefs’ defense. WR Christian Watson was terrific with seven catches for 71 yards and two TD, but then injured his hamstring later in the game. He’s listed as questionable for this week. Patrick Mahomes completed 21 of 33 for 210 yards with a TD and a pick.
Monday, Dec. 4
Cincinnati (+10/41) over JACKSONVILLE 34-31ot
This was a pretty amazing Monday night game, mainly because Trevor Lawrence limped to the locker room on a gimpy ankle late in the fourth quarter. That left C.J. Beathard facing Jake Browning in overtime. Browning was really good in this game, completing 32 of 37 for 354 yards and a TD with a rushing score. He did the right thing by consistently going to Ja’Marr Chase, who caught 11 passes for 149 yards and a 76-yard TD. The Jags fell to 8-4, but the good news is that Lawrence could return this week. Cincy is still in the mix at 6-6 in the AFC North.
