Ex-NFL QB Christian Hackenberg Heading To The Diamond?

Through the years, we have seen a few pro athletes play in two different sports. Thirty-three pro athletes have played in two sports in their careers, including Bo Jackson (Baseball/ Football), Michael Jordan (Basketball/ Football), Tim Tebow (Football/ Baseball), Deion Sanders (Football, Baseball) and Charlie Ward (Football, Basketball). Now we have another player that will be taking a shot at a second sport. He is Christian Hackenberg, who played college football at Penn State, and then he was on four different teams in the NFL.

Hackenberg is looking to make a comeback, but this time on the baseball diamond. We do note that he has never taken an official snap in the NFL, but still, he was on the Bengals, Raiders, Eagles, and Jets. He is the only QB, in the last 39 years. to be drafted in the 1st or 2nd rounds and never play a down in the NFL. The Ex-Penn State quarterback threw for 8457 yards with 48 TDs and 31 INTs in three years for the Nittany Lions.

Hackenberg didn’t play baseball in his time at Penn State but he has played some in high school as a pitcher. He was 1-3 with a 7.36 ERA pitching for Fork Union (Va.) Military Academy. Hackenberg struck out 33 batters in 25 2/3 innings but walked 40. His final season was back in 2013, so it has been seven years since he last took to the diamond. Still, Hackenberg feels that he has the talent and the arm to compete at the professional level. He is just 25 years old, after all.

Still, he was not very good when he pitched in high school plus Tim Tebow and Michael Jordan were much better athletes than Hackenberg is and they never made it to the big leagues. I think it will be a very long road for Hackenberg and probably one that will not end in a trip to the major leagues.
