The first weekend of the LCS Summer Split wraps up, and we have another exciting four game slate in front of us. All ten teams have played at least one match now, and there hasn't been many surprises outside of an impressive debut in the Mid Lane for Damonte for Golden Guardians. We also saw our first perfect game of the split during day two when Evil Geniuses absolutely dominated Counter Logic Gaming. It will be interesting to see how things pan out for these LCS teams for the rest of this Summer Split.
Cloud9 (-500) vs. 100 Thieves (+320)
Kill Spread: Cloud9 -9.5
Kill Total: 23.5
The defending Spring Split champions Cloud9 didn't look like they lost any momentum from their 17-1 run through the spring. Their opening match was against one of the tougher teams in the LCS in FlyQuest, and they made fairly easy work of them. Cloud9 only had 17 kills to 11 deaths, but they downed 11 of FlyQuest's towers while only losing one. 100 Thieves didn't have a great debut against Evil Geniuses, and they need a bounce-back win. 100 Thieves looked strong early in that match, but their early-game build didn't pan out well for them. I don't normally like to lay a spread this big in a best-of-one contest, but I will for this battle as Cloud9 is clearly the best team in the LCS, and the gap isn't even very close.
Pick: Cloud9 Spread -9.5 Kills (-125)
TSM (-245) vs. Dignitas (+175)
Kill Spread: TSM -6.5
Kill Total: 22.5
The second contest of the day will be between two 0-1 teams who are looking for better results. TSM was in over their heads against Team Liquid in their debut, and the statline says just this. TSM had only two kills to 13 deaths, and they lost ten towers while only taking down one. Dignitas gave Golden Guardians a good fight for a little while, but they couldn't find the team fight wins that they needed to climb back into the game. Dignitas did lose 11 towers while only taking down one, but they managed to register seven kills while dying 15 times. Both of these teams have talented rosters, and both have got to be itching to break the win column. I like the over on the kill total in this match as I picture this being an action-packed kill frenzy. There's simply too much talent from either side for them to not be able to rack up kills.
Pick: Over 22.5 Kills (-115)
Team Liquid (-250) vs. Golden Guardians (+180)
Kill Spread: Team Liquid -5.5
Kill Total: 21.5
The third battle of the day features two of the better-looking teams in their LCS Summer Split debuts. Team Liquid had a beautiful debut against TSM, and they made prety easy work of them. Team Liquid registered 13 kills while only dying twice, and they also took down ten of TSM's towers while only losing one of their own. Golden Guardians didn't look quite as impressive on the statline, but they did look equally impressive on the rift. Dignitas stuck around with Golden Guardians, but superior team fighting made the difference for GG. Damonte was outstanding in his LCS debut with six kills, five assists and only two deaths, and I expect him to be a force to be reckoned with in the LCS this split. Golden Guardians really impressed me with their ability to control the game even in situations where it looked as though things might spiral out of control. I smell an upset brewing in this battle here.
Pick: Golden Guardians ML (+180)
Immortals (-145) vs. Counter Logic Gaming (+105)
Kill Spread: Immortals -4.5
Kill Total: 22.5
The final contest of the opening weekend of this LCS split will see two teams who are looking for a better effort. Immortals had a rough draw in their debut as they had to face a FlyQuest team fresh off of a beating at the hands of Cloud9. Immortals was a hefty underdog in that contest, and FlyQuest blew off some steam against them. Meanwhile Counter Logic Gaming was on the wrong end of the split's first perfect game in their debut. Their bout with Evil Geniuses was not pretty, and they appear to be on their way to similar results to their 3-15 finish in the Spring Split. I believe that Immortals is a better team than their match against FlyQuest would dictate, and I expect them to rebound nicely against the bottom-dwelling Counter Logic Gaming.
