German Bundesliga - Bayern Munich vs. Borussia Monchengladbach - Preview & Prediction

Eager to strengthen their bid to finish in the top-four of the Bundesliga this season, 4th-placed Borussia Monchengladbach will pay a visit to league-leading Bayern Munich, who will be missing a few key players. Kick-off - at 12:30 PM ET on Saturday, June 13.

Bayern Continue Winning Run

Bayern Munich had plenty of reasons to celebrate during the past few days after extending their winning streak in the Bundesliga to nine games following a 4-2 victory against Bayer Leverkusen at BayArena on Saturday before reaching the Final of the DFB Cup for a third consecutive year after beating Eintracht Frankfurt 2-1 in the Semi-final four days later. Robert Lewandowski scored in both fixtures, reaching 45 strikes in 38 competitive games this season, while Thomas Muller became the first player in Bundesliga history to reach 20 assists in a single-season campaign. The team leads Germany’s top tier with a W22 D4 L4 record, sitting seven points clear of 2nd-placed Borussia Dortmund.

Lewandowski, who has collected 30 snipes and three assists in the Bundesliga this year, and Muller (7 markers, 20 assists) have been responsible for 66% of Bayern’s league goals this season, but both will miss the upcoming game through suspension. Goalie Manuel Neuer, meanwhile, has stopped 77 shots during the current campaign, sitting 11th in the saves chart. He has picked up 13 clean sheets in 30 appearances and gives up a goal every 90 minutes of play. The Reds are top of the Bundesliga in goals scored (90), shots taken per game (18.4), ball possession (62.2%) and passing accuracy (87.1%).

Gladbach Lose In Freiburg

The current inconsistency of Borussia Monchengladbach brought the second defeat in the team’s last four contests (W1 D1 L2) after the Foals were edged out with a count of 1-0 by Freiburg away at Schwarzwald-Stadion on Friday. Looking to bank their first victory in Freiburg since March 2002, Gladbach dominated in ball control (65%) and attempts (18-15), but ultimately failed to convert on any of their six shots on goal, allowing the only snipe of the contest just before the one-hour mark, with Alassane Plea seeing his second yellow card just 10 minutes later. The Foals are 4th in the league (W17 D5 L8), on level points with 5th-placed Bayer Leverkusen, but with a better goal differential.

French striking duo of Plea and Marcus Thuram leads Borussia Monchengladbach with 10 goals each. Plea, though, will sit out the upcoming game through suspension due to Friday’s red card. Goalie Yann Sommer, meanwhile, still occupies the top position in the Bundesliga’s saves chart, having turned away 119 shots in 30 appearances this year. He has collected six clean sheets and allows a goal every 75 minutes on average. The Foals have netted the 4th highest quantity of goals so far this season (57), while posting the 6th highest number of shots per game (13.9). The team is 5th in ball possession (51.8%) and 6th in passing accuracy (81.4%).

Prediction

Bayern Munich are entering their clash against Borussia Monchengladbach with quite a substantial dent in their attacking troops. Robert Lewandowski and Thomas Muller are both suspended. Philippe Countinho has an ankle problem, while Serge Gnabry is an injury doubt after hurting his back in training. We are talking about Bayern’s four highest-scoring players, who have collectively netted 57 of the team’s 90 Bundesliga strikes this season. For Gladbach, though, those are definitely the best news of the week. Currently sitting on level points with 5th-placed Bayer Leverkusen, who are visiting out-of-form Schalke 04 on Sunday, the Foals need a positive result to maintain their grip on a top-four finish. They have already beaten Bayern on three of the last five occasions (W3 L2) and are only one of four sides that has banked a victory versus the Bundesliga leaders in all competitions this season.
