League of Legends 4/23 LPL Playoffs EDG vs. RNG Preview And Picks
Hey, hey, hey! Winning Willie is back again with another great play or two for League of Legends bettors. For those who are new to the game of League of Legends, be sure to check out my breakdown for beginners where I give a short rundown of how the game is played and also why you should be betting it.
Willie's Record - 8-3
There isn't much going on in the world of League of Legends outside of the LPL Spring Split Playoffs and the European Masters. If you look into the odds for the European Masters, most books are only offering money lines with heavy juice, and there is no value there. Instead, I'm going to breakdown the upcoming 4/23 match coming from the LPL set between Edward Gaming (EDG) and Royal Never Give Up (RNG) for you.
EDG (-115) vs. RNG (-120)
Starting Lineups
EDG - Aodi, JunJia, Scout, Hope, Meiko
RNG - LangX, XLB, Xiaohu, Betty, Ming
We have a great matchup set for this round of the playoffs as these teams couldn't be much more evenly matched. These two battled it out back in week four of the Spring Split with RNG winning 2-1 in what was a close match. Experience is huge when it comes to the playoffs in eSports, much like in normal sports. Both of these squads are fairly seasoned, and there isn't a huge gap in terms of experience as EDG has a combined 23 years as opposed to 21 from RNG.
There are three things I really like about EDG in this game. First off, they are a much better team when Aodi is manning the Top Lane. They are 11-6 with him in the lineup as opposed to 8-6 with Jiejie or 3-4 with Xiaoxiang. The second being that EDG's starting five has a combined KDA (Kill, Deaths, Assists) of 24.86 while RNG's starters only carry a combined KDA of 20.02. The final thing I believe gives them an edge is their previous loss to them in the split. That was a match that EDG should have won and they know it. I believe this will provide them with enough motivation to get the job done and advance in the playoffs.
Pick : EDG Moneyline (-115)
Total : 4.5 (+160/-220)
Oddsmakers have set a total on this contest at 4.5 with heavy juice on the under. I took this as more of a value play than anything else, although with this being the playoffs and these two having such a close meeting earlier in the split, I could totally see this match going the entire five games.
In their week four meeting, EDG cruised through game one before RNG repaid the favor in game two. The third game was one for the ages, however. It took slightly over 48 minutes to decide a third game and match winner. RNG squeezed out the win and did so with only a 0.4k gold lead which is extremely close. I could totally see this bout going the distance, and throwing a unit on this at plus money is worth a look.
