Recapping The 3rd Round Of The Workday Charity Open

By Dave Shields

It was moving day at the Workday Charity Open at Muirfield Village in Dublin, Ohio, and Justin Thomas did a lot of moving.

The world’s No. 5 ranked golfer fired a 6-under round of 66 to vault into first place Saturday at 16-under. Thomas holds a two-shot lead over Viktor Hovland, who also shot a 66.

Collin Morikawa, who led by three shots at the start of the day, is now three shots back at 13-under after carding an Even par 72 on Saturday.

Sam Burns and Kevin Streelman are five shots behind Thomas at 11-under.

Streelman, who shot an 8-under 64 on Friday, only managed to shoot a 1-under 71 on Saturday. He finished fourth at the Memorial last year, which is played on the same course, so he knows he can play well here.

“There's just shots you've got to step up and hit great shots,” Streelman said, reported the PGA. “... I drive the ball straight. Been able to hit a lot of fairways, and when my putter is on, I know I can compete with most of the guys and (looking forward to) see how I do against these young guys on the weekend.”

Streelman has been playing well this season, finishing second at Pebble Beach back in February and second to winner Dustin Johnson at the Travelers Championship two weeks ago.

“I think that's my favorite part of this game, playing it professionally, is going head-to-head with the best players in the world when the cameras are on, when the heat is on, and just seeing what you've got. Like I said, some weeks you've got it and some weeks you don't but being in the moment is what's awesome about playing this sport competitively,” Streelman said, reported the PGA.

Ian Poulter and Gary Woodland sit behind Streelman at 10-under, while Rickie Fowler, Hideki Matsuyama, Chase Seiffert, and MJ Dafue are 7 shots back at 9-under.

At this point, it looks like it will come down to whether Thomas can hold off the two rookies, Hovland and Morikawa, but it’s a Sunday on the PGA Tour, so anything can happen.
