The PGA Targets June To Restart The Tour

The PGA Tour has been put on hold for a month and some of the tournaments have been postponed until later in the year. The most notable is the Masters, which has been moved from April to November. It will be odd to see the Masters take place during the late fall but these are the things that we now have to deal with in the age of Covid-19. Having no sports has been very frustrating for all of us sports junkies around the globe and it must be even more frustrating for the players but the health of everyone MUST come first. Having said that, let’s take a phrase from the President, “there is light at the end of the tunnel”.

The last time that golf was played was in March. The TPC at Sawgrass was stopped after the first round. We’ll according to Brian Wacker at GolfDigest.com, the PGA Tour is set to resume in June. The events will most likely have no fans, which probably wouldn’t be a horrible thing for the golfers as that means fewer distractions. Still, any kind of sports at this time is a plus and ray of hope that our country is getting back to some normalcy.

PGA Tour officials are expected to announce this week that play will start back up with the Charles Schwab Challenge, which will take place from June 11th to the 14th at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth. If that happens, it would be great as I do like to watch golf, plus as I stated above, any sports at this time would be great. The RBC Canadian Open was scheduled for June 11th to the 14th but it has been canceled altogether. It will be odd watching a sporting event with no fans, but I have been watching wrestling for a month with no fans and have been getting used to it. LOL

According to an unnamed source, many of the tournaments will range from 144 to 156 players to make up for lost playing time.

“If the safest and/or the only way to [hold the PGA] is to do it without fans, we’re fully prepared to do that,” Waugh said. “We believe that having it as a television event is worth doing regardless of whether there are fans there or not.”

Let’s do this. Having sports, even if it is just on TV, would be the distraction that we all need at the moment.
