Tiger Woods Is Headed Back To The Course

February 16th of this year was the last time that Tiger Woods took to the course in an actual PGA Tour event. That means he has missed all five tournaments since the restart. Well, next week, Tiger has committed to playing in the Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio.

Tiger is hoping for a much better result than he had at the Genesis Invitational, back in February as he shot an 11 over par to finish 68th. This was after a 9th place finish in the Farmers Insurance Open (1/26/20) and a first-place finish at the ZOZO Championship (10/27/19) to begin the season. Woods also finished 4th at the Hero World Challenge (12/7/19) which was an unofficial PGA Tour event and he played in The Match II with Phil Michelson, Peyton Manning, and Tom Brady. Peyton and Tiger won the match.

Woods has had injury woes the last few years, but he did win the Masters last year and he is currently ranked 14th in the world. He has 82 career titles on tour overall, including 15 Majors as a pro. He trails Jack Nicklaus by three in the battle for all-time Majors wins and he is tied with Sam Snead for most tour wins overall. I am a big fan of Tiger and I do hope that he can stay healthy long enough to capture at least four more Majors, still, surpassing Snead for the all-time wins will be far easier.

Tiger has won this event five times in his career with wins coming in 1999, 2000, 2001, 2009, and 2012. He has never missed the tournament when healthy enough to play and Woods finished tied for ninth at last year’s Memorial. This has always been one of Tiger’s favorite stops on the tour as he loves the layout of the course. He has nine top-10 finishes and 13 top-25s in 17 career starts at Muirfield Village. We also note that this is the site of his worst ever round of golf. Back in 2015, he was going through some major back issues and Woods ended up shooting a 13-over 85. That came in the 3rd round and he finished at 14-over par for the tournament. Tiger looked healthy in The Match II, back in May, so could this be his 83rd career win on tour, which would make him the all-time winner in tour wins? We shall see. I will have a preview of the memorial on Tuesday, so be sure and look for it.
