Lakers vs. Nuggets Preview
This rematch of last season’s Western Conference Finals saw the Lakers take a heartbreaking 101-99 loss to go down 2-0 in the series before heading home. LA built a 20-point lead in the third quarter and seemed to be cruising to victory. But Denver slowly chipped away at the deficit to tie the game before Murray’s dagger as the clock ran out.
Los Angeles won 11 of their last 14 regular season games to clinch a berth in the Play-In game. They then claimed the #7 seed after beating the New Orleans Pelicans 124-108. LeBron James leads the Lakers with 25.7 points and 8.3 assists per game. Anthony Davis is the leading rebounder with 12.6 per game to go along with his 24.7 points.
The Nuggets are favorites to take Game 4. They could be looking at a possible sweep if the Lakers can’t figure out a way to win. The defending NBA champion Nuggets entered the playoffs with wins in six of their final eight regular season games to clinch the conference’s #2 seed.
The Lakers have no answer for MVP candidate Nikola Jokic, who had 32 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists in the Game 1 victory. He followed it up with a triple-double of 27 points, 20 rebounds and 10 assists in Game 2.
