Arizona Diamondbacks (73-74) vs. Minnesota Twins (64-82)

The 2025 Major League Baseball season continues Friday, September 12, with the Arizona Diamondbacks taking on the Minnesota Twins in the interleague showdown at Target Field in Minneapolis, Minnesota, so we’ve prepared the best Diamondbacks vs. Twins prediction to get you covered.

Arizona and Minnesota open their three-game regular-season series. Last year, Minnesota took two out of three from the Diamondbacks in Arizona, and the Twins have won 11 of their previous 14 games against the D-backs.

Let’s take a closer look at this Diamondbacks vs. Twins prediction, one of our MLB picks for Friday’s slate. The first pitch at Target Field is set at 8:10 PM ET, and the Twins are -135 favorites with a total of 8.0 runs.

The Diamondbacks hope to stay on track

The Arizona Diamondbacks are coming off Wednesday’s 5-3 victory over the San Francisco Giants. The D-backs snapped a three-game skid and avoided a sweep in a three-game series at Oracle Park in San Francisco.

Arizona is 5-4 in September. The Diamondbacks have scored 44 runs during that nine-game stretch while slashing .251/.313/.392 with nine home runs in 291 at-bats. Their bullpen threw 26.2 innings in September, posting an ugly 7.09 ERA, 1.43 WHIP, and a .255 batting average against.

Brandon Pfaadt is projected to take the mound at Target Field on Friday night. The 26-year-old right-hander is 13-8 with a troublesome 5.18 ERA and 1.38 WHIP in 29 starts (153 innings pitched) in 2025. Last Saturday, Pfaadt threw six innings of a one-run, six-hit ball in a 5-1 victory to the Red Sox.

Pfaadt will meet the Twins for the second time in his career. Last year, he threw 6.1 innings in a no-decision against Minnesota, allowing four earned runs on five hits and two walks. The current Twins are 3-for-16 with a home run against Pfaadt.

The Twins continue to struggle

The Minnesota Twins are coming off Wednesday’s 4-3 defeat at the Los Angeles Angels. The Twins dropped a three-game set in Anaheim, extending their losing streak to three series. Minnesota trounced the Angels 12-3 in the opener and suffered a heavy 12-2 loss in the middle game.

The Twins have only won two of their previous 10 games overall. They’ve scored 44 runs on a .247/.326/.405 triple-slash during that stretch, while the Twins bullpen has compiled a hideous 8.33 ERA, 1.85 WHIP, and a .318 batting average against across 35.2 frames of work.

Pablo Lopez is expected to toe the slab on Friday night, and the 29-year-old righty carries a 5-4 record with a strong 2.84 ERA and 1.08 WHIP in 12 starts (66.2 IP) this season. After spending three months on the IL with a shoulder injury, Lopez returned to the mound last Friday and tossed six innings of a two-run, six-hit ball in a 2-1 loss at the Royals.

Lopez is 0-2 with a 5.40 ERA in four career starts against Arizona. He hasn’t met the Diamondbacks since 2022. Just three guys from this Minnesota team have seen Lopez before, combining for two singles and a double in nine at-bats.

Diamondbacks vs. Twins Pick

Moneyline Pick for Diamondbacks vs. Twins

  • Minnesota Twins (5 units)

Brandon Pfaadt pitched well last time out. However, he’s struggled for most of the season, and over his previous six outings, Pfaadt has allowed 20 earned runs on 46 hits and five walks across 31 innings of work.

Hereof, I will go with the Twins. I expect Pablo Lopez to make a difference. Of course, I’m worried about the Twins’ slumping bullpen, though the Diamondbacks ‘pen has struggled lately, too. Neither lineup has hit the righties particularly well this month (Arizona .651 OPS and 82 wRC+, Minnesota .702 OPS and 95 wRC+).

Over/Under Pick for Diamondbacks vs. Twins

  • Under 8.0 (5 runs)

It seems like there’s no easy money in this game. These two bullpens have been awful so far this month, but the lineups have struggled against the righties, especially the Diamondbacks.

I don’t trust Brandon Pfaadt, but he should be able to avoid a meltdown in this matchup. Pablo Lopez will look to build on his strong outing against the Royals, and I’m backing him to pitch well against the Diamondbacks. Give me the under, even though the bullpens could easily blow things up down the stretch.
