Athletics (64-77) vs. Los Angeles Angels (66-74)
The 2025 Major League Baseball season goes on Saturday, September 6, with the Athletics facing off against the Los Angeles Angels in the AL West clash at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California, and we’ve got the Athletics vs. Angels prediction to get you covered.
It’s the second of a three-game series at Angel Stadium, and Friday’s opener has been excluded from the analysis. The Angels have won eight of their first 10 encounters with the Athletics this season, and seven of those 10 games have gone over the total.
Now, let’s take a look at this A’s vs. Angels prediction, one of our MLB picks for Saturday’s slate. The first pitch at Angel Stadium is set at 9:38 PM ET, and the Angels are -138 moneyline favorites with a total of 9.5 runs.

The Athletics need more from J.T. Ginn
The Athletics have dropped consecutive series since they swept a three-game set over the Detroit Tigers last week. After getting swept by the Texas Rangers in a three-game set over the last weekend, the Athletics lost two out of three against the St. Louis Cardinals.
The A’s enjoyed a day off last Thursday and were dead last in the AL West on Friday morning. They’ve gone 4-6 over their previous 10 games. The Athletics have scored 50 runs on a .257/.310/.439 triple-slash during that stretch, while their bullpen has recorded a 4.23 ERA and 1.33 WHIP.
J.T. Ginn is expected to take the mound at Angel Stadium on Saturday night. The 26-year-old right-hander carries a 2-6 record with a 5.17 ERA and 1.36 WHIP in 12 starts and seven relief appearances (71.1 innings pitched) this season. He was awful in August, going 0-4 with a 7.24 ERA in six starts and 27.1 innings of work.
Ginn will meet the Angels for the second time in his career. Back in May, he was charged with a loss in a 4-3 home defeat against the Angels, allowing four earned runs on six hits across four innings.

The Angels hope for a bounce-back display from Yusei Kikuchi
The Los Angeles Angels suffered a 4-3 defeat at the Kansas City Royals this past Thursday. The Halos missed an opportunity to sweep a three-game series at Kauffman Stadium, tallying the fifth loss in their last 10 games overall.
During that 10-game stretch, the Angels have scored 32 runs on a .190/.277/.349 slash line, while their bullpen has registered a 4.55 ERA and 1.31 WHIP. They were fourth in the AL West on Friday morning, trailing the final wild card in the American League by seven games.
Yusei Kikuchi is projected to get the starting call on Saturday, and the 34-year-old left-hander is 6-10 with a 3.83 ERA and 1.44 WHIP in 29 starts (159.2 IP) in 2025. He’s struggled a lot over his previous five starts (1-3 record), posting a 7.01 ERA and 5.05 FIP through 25.2 innings of work. Last Monday, Kikuchi yielded five earned runs on eight hits and two walks across 5.2 innings in an 8-3 defeat at the Astros.
Kikuchi is 3-4 with a 3.41 ERA in 13 career starts against the Athletics. He’s met them twice this season and posted a 1-1 record. After throwing 7.1 scoreless innings of a one-hit ball in a 7-4 victory to the Athletics in June, Kikuchi gave up four earned runs on five hits and three walks through four frames in a 10-3 loss at the A’s in August.

Athletics vs. Angels Pick
Moneyline Pick for Athletics vs. Angels
- Angels (5 units)
Both J.T. Ginn and Yusei Kikuchi have struggled over the last few weeks. Ginn has allowed three or more earned runs in five of his previous outings, while Kikuchi has given up 11 earned runs over his last two starts and 9.2 innings of work.
Over the last 10 days, both bullpens have been shaky. Hereof, I will go with the Angels only because the Athletics have a poor record against Kikuchi. The current A’s are just 5-for-40 with a double and two home runs against the Angels’ lefty.
Over/Under Pick for Athletics vs. Angels
- Under 9.5 (5 units)
I will take the under on the total despite Ginn’s and Kikuchi’s recent woes. Over the last 10 days, the Athletics have recorded an ugly .558 OPS and 55 wRC+ against the southpaws, while the Angels have been terrible against the righties, notching a .562 OPS and 58 wRC+.
Kikuchi already dominated the Athletics at Angel Stadium in June. The veteran lefty can only pitch better than he did in his last two starts. On the other side, it’s hard to trust Ginn, but he should avoid a meltdown, given the way the Angels have been hitting the righties lately.
