Montreal Alouettes vs Toronto Argonauts Picks, Prediction, Odds, and Line Movement for Friday October 23 2026

By: Alex MacMillan Published 10/23/2026, 11:51 AM ET

Today’s Montreal Alouettes vs Toronto Argonauts picks for Friday, October 23, 2026, open the final week of the CFL regular season at BMO Field. Montreal enters at 13-4 with first place in the East already secured, while Toronto is 9-8 and locked into second place with a home date in the Eastern Semi-Final. With neither team able to improve its playoff seed, roster management is more important than the season-long records.

Montreal is currently favored by 2.5 points at several books, with the total around 52.5 after opening considerably higher earlier in the week. Bettors can follow more CFL picks and predictions, compare current CFL betting odds, and review available CFL player props before kickoff. The Best Bet is Under 52.5 because both teams are protecting key starters and handing the offense to reserve quarterbacks.

Best Available Odds for Montreal Alouettes vs Toronto Argonauts

  • Moneyline: Montreal -146, Toronto +122
  • Spread: Montreal -2.5 (-112), Toronto +2.5 (-108)
  • Total: Over 52.5 (-106), Under 52.5 (-114)

The line movement tells the story of the week. Toronto opened as a short favorite at some books before Chad Kelly was ruled out, and the market crossed pick’em toward Montreal. The total also fell from the mid-50s into the low-50s as both clubs revealed plans to rest or limit major contributors. That adjustment is significant, but the confirmed depth charts still support a lower-scoring game.

Montreal Alouettes vs Toronto Argonauts Preview

This matchup looks much different from a normal meeting between the top two teams in the East. Montreal already owns the division title and will host the Eastern Final, while Toronto is guaranteed to host the Eastern Semi-Final. The result cannot change either club’s playoff position, so the priority is getting through Friday night without losing important players.

Montreal already demonstrated that approach last week. Crum started in place of Davis Alexander and completed 20 of 26 passes for 185 yards and a touchdown in a 16-12 loss at Saskatchewan. The Alouettes protected several offensive starters and played a more conservative game than their season-long scoring average would normally suggest.

Crum is capable of extending plays with his legs, but the offense is thinner than the version that averaged more than 34 points per game during the season. Philpot and Snead have been two of Montreal’s most important receivers, and removing that much target share naturally limits the passing ceiling. The Alouettes can still move the chains with their run game and short passing concepts, but explosive production is less reliable.

Toronto is making an even larger rotation. Horn will make his first CFL start with Kelly sidelined, and the Argonauts made 15 roster changes for the finale. That means the offensive continuity behind Toronto’s strong season-long passing numbers is largely irrelevant to this specific matchup. Horn has talent, but he will be working with a lineup that looks very different from the one Kelly used for most of the year.

The Argonauts are also coming off one of the most surprising results of the season, a 40-39 loss to Ottawa that gave the REDBLACKS their first victory. Kelly was injured in that game, which gives Toronto another reason to treat this finale carefully rather than chasing a meaningless regular-season win with maximum aggression.

Montreal’s defense should still have enough regular contributors to challenge Horn. The Alouettes held Saskatchewan to only 16 points last week despite playing on the road, and their depth has been one of the reasons they finished with the CFL’s best record. A first-time starter facing that structure is a difficult environment for Toronto to produce its normal passing volume.

Matchup Breakdown

The total is more attractive than the side because roster rotation makes the winner difficult to predict. Montreal has the better overall depth and deserves to be favored once Toronto’s quarterback situation is considered, but the Alouettes have no reason to extend starters deep into the fourth quarter if the game becomes physical.

Toronto’s best route is to give Horn manageable throws and avoid exposing him to obvious passing downs. The Argonauts can use the run game, screens and short routes to keep the offense on schedule. That approach can generate drives without necessarily producing quick touchdowns.

Montreal should follow a similar formula with Crum. He can use his mobility when plays break down, but the Alouettes are unlikely to design a high-risk game plan when the Eastern Final is already waiting. Sustained possessions and field position matter more than maximizing possessions.

The market has already recognized some of this by cutting the total. That does not automatically eliminate the Under. A game can still finish in the mid-to-high 40s if both quarterbacks avoid turnovers and the coaching staffs manage the final quarter conservatively.

The biggest risk is defensive scoring or short fields. Reserve quarterbacks can create mistakes, and one interception return or special-teams touchdown can push a low-possession game toward the Over quickly. Still, the offensive personnel reductions are large enough to make Under 52.5 the cleaner angle.

Game Thesis: Montreal has the deeper roster and should have a slight advantage even with Crum starting, but both clubs are treating the finale as preparation for the playoffs rather than a must-win game. Toronto’s first start with Horn and the absence of multiple regular weapons on both sides lower the offensive ceiling enough to prefer the Under. Projected final: Montreal 27, Toronto 20.

Montreal Alouettes vs Toronto Argonauts Best Bet - Total: Under 52.5 (-114)

Under 52.5 is the Best Bet because the confirmed lineups are far more important than the teams’ full-season scoring averages. Montreal is without multiple top receiving options, while Toronto is starting Horn and resting a large portion of its normal rotation.

The number has already fallen, but the game still requires 53 points to beat the Under. A 27-20 or 26-21 result fits a matchup where both teams prioritize health and playoff preparation over maximum offensive volume.

The main danger is turnovers creating short fields. That risk is real with reserve quarterbacks, but both coaching staffs can reduce it with conservative play-calling and controlled possessions.

Montreal Alouettes vs Toronto Argonauts Spread Pick: Montreal -2.5 (-112)

Montreal -2.5 is a secondary lean because the Alouettes have shown better depth throughout the season and Crum now has a full start in this late-season role. Toronto’s 15 roster changes create more uncertainty than Montreal’s rotation.

The spread is less attractive than the total because either team could shorten the game and make one late possession decisive.

Montreal Alouettes vs Toronto Argonauts Moneyline Pick: Pass

Montreal is the projected winner, but the moneyline does not offer enough additional value compared with the short spread. Toronto’s plus price is tempting in a low-stakes finale, yet the first start for Horn makes the outright underdog case difficult to trust.

Prediction: Montreal Alouettes 27, Toronto Argonauts 20
