Air Force is Under New Management

The Air Force Falcons fired their coach Joe Scott after he was at the helm for the past five seasons. In the world of NIL and the transfer portal, life is not always kind to the military academies, as they are not willing to accept upperclassmen transfers as other institiutions are. This has led them to be 0-17 in league play this season, while every other team in the Mountain West has at least three conference victories.

In their last game, Air Force was led by Lucas Hobin with 21 points in the loss to San Jose State, while knocking down five threes in the process. Hobin is their top player and outside shooter as a 6'8 freshman forward, he is averaging 12.4 PPG, and leads the team with 68 made three point shots. They are led by two freshman, as Kam Sanders is their best backcourt player as a 6'3 freshman guard getting 12.1 PPG and 3.8 APG. Caleb Walker is a 6'9 junior adding to their frontcourt with 11.2 PPG and 5.2 RPG.

Air Force is currently ranked 350th out of 365 Division I teams according to KenPom. They are 349th in offensive efficiency and 320th in defensive efficiency. They play at a relatively slow pace, ranking 253rd in tempo.

Cowboys Battle for Seeding

The Wyoming Cowboys will not get an automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament, that is already set in stone. Their only chance is to run the table in the Mountain West Conference Tournament, which means they will want to improve their seed as much as possible over their last three games of the season. Wyoming is only 9th in the 12 team league. In their last game, the Cowboys were led by Damarion Dennis with 16 points in their loss to Boise State.

Dennis is a 6'1 sophomore guard in their starting lineup who is averaging 10.3 PPG. He transferred over from Texas A&M Corpus Christi to play in the Mountain West. The team's top scorer is Leland Walker, he is a 6'1 senior guard who played with Florida Atlantic last season. This year Walker is getting 14.3 PPG and 3.6 APG to lead the team. Their top outside shooter is Nasir Meyer as he leads the team with 43 made three pointers. Meyer is a 6'7 freshman out of Los Angeles who is contributing 13.0 PPG and 4.7 RPG.

Wyoming is ranked 95th overall according to KenPom. They are 86th in offensive efficiency and 123rd in defensive efficiency. They play at a similar pace as Air Force, ranking 237th in pace of play.

Air Force vs. Wyoming Picks and Predictions

Spread pick for Air Force vs. Wyoming

  •   Wyoming to cover (5 units)

The Air Force Falcons will never give up, but that doesn't mean they can hang with the rest of the teams in the Mountain West as they are 0-17 in league play. They have been underdogs in each of their last 15 games, and did not cover in 13 of them. This makes them one of the worst covering teams in the NCAA, as they consistently get double digit numbers on the spread and still can't cover the number. Wyoming has was high scoring guards in Walker and Meyer, and they will be enough to give Air Force another big loss.

Take Wyoming to cover.

Over/Under Pick for Air Force vs. Wyoming

  •   Under (4 units)

These are two of the slowest paced teams in all of college basketball, and neither is efficient enough offensively to push this game over the total. Air Force is only 253rd in pace of play, while Wyoming is 237th, both teams will comfortably fall into a slow pace as neither tries to push the tempo. Wyoming is at home and will be able to play at their own pace while controlling this game. Wyoming went under in each of their last two games, and will go under again here.

Take the under.
