Auburn (8-3 SU, 7-4 ATS, and 9-2 O/U) beat Chattanooga 92-78 in its previous game (Dec. 13), failing to cover the 19.5-point spread. The Tigers, who were coming off a 97-68 loss to top-ranked Arizona, shot 49 percent from the field and attempted 37 free throws, making 29. They dominated on the glass, outrebounding the Mocs 42-20. It was a significant bounce-back performance, as they were held to 33 percent shooting in the previous game by the Wildcats.

Purdue has won consecutive games since its first loss of the season, an 81-58 drubbing at the hands of Iowa State.

Auburn vs. Purdue Pick and Preview
Spread Pick for Auburn vs. Purdue
- Boilermakers -9.5 (4 Units)
Auburn is a team with a lot of new faces, while the Boilermakers return most of last season's squad. That experience will be critical to winning Saturday's game, and I expect the home team to play with a chip on its shoulder after suffering a blowout loss to the Tigers last year. While they may not dominate from start to finish, the final score will be lopsided. Purdue will have a decent rebounding advantage and will attack the visitors in the paint (4th nationally in near-proximity shooting percentage). They're also elite in the second-chance scoring department, ranking 2nd in potential quick points off offensive rebounds vs the average opponent, per Haslametrics. The Tigers will attempt to get the Boilermakers' bigs in foul trouble on the other end of the court, but the home team will stay disciplined (lowest opponent FT attempt rate in the country).
I believe Purdue will cover the spread.
Over/Under Pick for Auburn vs. Purdue
- Under 154.5 (5 Units)
Betting Trends: The under is 8-3 in Purdue's games this season, including 4-1 in its previous five.
Purdue will have to slow down the pace to win and cover. That should be easier for the Boilermakers as the de facto home team (ranked 332nd nationally in schedule-adjusted tempo, per KenPom). They will do a fine job on the boards (6th in total rebounding percentage), creating extra opportunities (4th in offensive rebounding percentage) for lengthy half-court possessions. The Boilermakers will also force the Tigers into too many poor looks from the perimeter, preventing them from getting the basketball into the paint, which the visitors prefer.
