Rams struggle in conference play
Colorado State went 9-2 in non-conference play, but had a relatively easy schedule (ranked 255th in non-conference play). They opened up Mountain West play on Dec. 20, losing to Utah State 100-58 as a 10.5-point dog, and they fell at home to Nevada 75-62 as a 1.5-point favorite. Since the New Year began, the CSU Rams defeated Grand Canyon (70-60) on the road, lost to New Mexico at home and on Jan. 9, defeated UNLV 70-62 at home as a 6.5-point favorite.
The Rams were led by Brandon Rechsteiner, who had 15 points and four assists against the Rebels on Friday. Colorado State also shot 43% (9-of-21) from long range and outrebounded UNLV by six.
On the injury front, CSU has been playing without 6-9 forward Kyle Jorgensen (leg) since Dec. 9. The big man was averaging 13.8 points and 5.3 rebounds on 63.7% shooting. He's listed as questionable but reportedly has been considered week-to-week.

Josh Pascarelli (12.3 PPG) and Rechsteiner (12.3 PPG, 3.1 APG) lead the Rams in scoring. KenPom has Colorado State ranked 76th overall, 39th in Adjusted Offensive Rating, and 197th in Adjusted Defense.
Bulldogs are consistent....at losing
Fresno State has just one win in the Mountain West (70-55 over SJ State) and that's after going 0-4 in December and 1-7 since Nov. 26. In their last game, they fell at San Diego State, 71-52 as a 14.5-point underdog. The Bulldogs shot just 31% from the field and committed 15 turnovers in the loss to the Aztecs. Deshawn Gory led the Bulldogs with 16 points, 14 rebounds, and four assists.
You couldn't ask for a worse start for Fresno State. They rank 159th on KenPom, 260th in Adjusted Offense and 84th in Adjusted Defense. Jake Heidbreder leads the Bullldogs with 17.7 points per game, while shooting 42.5% from the field and 32% from long range.
On the injury front, guard Zaon Collins (undisclosed) missed the San Diego State game. He's averaging 13.6 points and 2.0 steals per game, while shooting 48.1% from the field. He's considered questionable for this game.
Colorado State vs. Fresno State prediction and pick
Spread Pick and Odds for Colorado State vs. Fresno State
- Fresno State +4.5 (4 units)
Collins suffered a "minor injury" in practice, so I'd expect him to return for this game. He's the point guard and runs the show. Fresno State has been solid at home, covering five of their last six games. Fresno State also plays better defense at home, holding opponents to just 26.1% shooting from beyond the arc, which they will need against the third-best three-point shooting team in the nation.
- Over 137 (4 units)
Fresno State is 155th in tempo, while Colorado State is one of the slowest teams in the nation. However, they are also very efficient, shooting 50.4% from the field and 41% from beyond the arc. The problem for the Rams is their defense, especially on the road, where they allow teams to shoot 50.3% from the field and 39.5% from beyond the arc.
