Marshall, out of the Sun Belt, has made an early statement after opening up the season with two wins as the road underdog, knocking off UMass 78-72 and Toledo 85-73. The Thundering Herd are led by Cornelius Jackson, who led the program to a 20-13 in his first year as their head coach last season. Jackson has been on the Marshall staff since 2017.
Through the first two games, 6’10 senior Wyatt Fricks (15.5 ppg, 6 rpg) is leading the Herd. Fricks has played for the Herd since the 2021-22 season, which seems like a rarity in today’s college basketball climate. The Herd also has 6’1 senior guard Jalen Speer (13.5 ppg, 5 apg) back from last season.
