Fordham is a top-15 offensive rebounding team

Fordham (10-9 SU, 7-9 ATS, and 3-13 O/U) lost 74-63 to Duquesne at home last Saturday, dropping to 1-5 in A-10 competition. The Rams only trailed by three at halftime, but never led in the ballgame. They shot 36 percent overall, including 4-for-28 (14%) from beyond the arc, and committed 13 turnovers. Fordham dominated on the glass (+8 rebounding margin with 19 offensive rebounds) and outscored Duquesne 36-22 in the paint, but the Dukes hit ten threes and added 18 points at the charity stripe.

The Fordham defense allows 68.8 points per game (48th) on 41.5 percent shooting (64th), including 34.5 percent from beyond the arc (249th). KenPom ranks Fordham 200th nationally, including 252nd in offensive efficiency rating and 144th in defensive efficiency rating.

Davidson hits plenty of three-pointers

Davidson (11-6 SU, 8-8 ATS, and 8-8 O/U) beat George Washington 84-79 on the road in its previous game, improving to 3-2 in A-10 play this season. The Wildcats, who led by as many as 17 points, shot 52 percent overall and knocked down 14 three-pointers. They assisted on 20 of their 28 made field goals and played sound defense, holding the Colonials to 40 percent shooting, including 28 percent from beyond the arc.

Sophomore guard Robert Blums paces the Wildcats in scoring at 11.1 points per game. He shoots 47.0 percent from the field, including 41.1 percent from three-point range. A few other Davidson stars to watch on Wednesday against Fordham are junior guard Parker Friedrichsen (10.2 PPG and a 44.4% 3PT%), junior guard Josh Scovens (9.4 PPG and 4.0 RPG), and freshman guard Nick Coval (8.5 PPG and 2.1 RPG).

Fordham vs. Davidson Pick and Preview

Spread Pick for Fordham vs. Davidson

  • Wildcats -5.5 (5 Units)

Betting Trends: Fordham is 1-4 ATS in its previous five games this season and is 1-4 ATS in its last five games against Davidson.

This Atlantic 10 matchup is an intriguing one. The Rams will dominate on the glass (ranked 14th in offensive rebounds per game), boxing out for second-chance scoring opportunities, while the Wildcats will let it fly from behind the three-point line (28th in 3PT%). While the visitors will easily win the rebounding battle, they aren't nearly as efficient offensively as the home team, so I'm skeptical they can make the most of their extra shot attempts. They also rarely get to the foul line (352nd in free-throw attempt rate), and shoot just 68.4 percent when they get there. Davidson is likely to shoot the lights out from long range against Fordham (249th in opponent 3PT%), and will step into plenty of open mid-range jumpers (68th in mid-range FG%) when the Rams defenders close out too fast.

In what will be a slow-tempo, lower-scoring game, I recommend wagering on the team with the more reliable offense.

Over/Under Pick for Fordham vs. Davidson

  • Under 130.5 (4 Units)

Betting Trends: The under is 8-2 in Fordham's previous ten games. It's also 7-3 in the last ten meetings between Fordham and Davidson.

I like the total to go under 131 points in Wednesday's A-10 clash in Davidson. The Rams and Wildcats play at a snail's pace, ranking 332nd and 343rd in schedule-adjusted tempo, according to KenPom. Both teams shoot under 70 percent at the charity stripe, and neither squad attempts many foul shots. Their shot selections value mid-range and three-pointers, especially Davidson, so I don't anticipate many points in the paint, either.
