George Mason vs George Washington picks are on my card for this A-10 Beltway Battle, and this is the type of rivalry spot where one clean adjustment can swing the whole game. I am breaking down the spread, the total, and the line movement the same way I do for my daily college basketball picks, because this matchup has both teams trending in opposite directions at the exact same time.

George Mason vs George Washington Key Matchups and Handicap

George Mason

George Mason is in a spot where it feels like the season has shifted in less than two weeks. Not long ago, the Patriots were still being discussed as a possible bubble team, and the A-10 had a realistic three-bid storyline.

That has changed quickly. Losses to Duquesne and Richmond within the last nine days have Mason wobbling, and now they look more like an NIT team unless they regroup fast and carry momentum into the conference tournament in Pittsburgh next month.

The biggest issue has been offense, and it starts with top scorer Kory Mincy. He averages 16 points per game, but his last three games have been a clear slump. Across that stretch, Mincy is just 7-for-25 from the floor with 19 total points, which is only 6.3 points per game.

When your best scorer goes cold at the exact time the schedule tightens up, it becomes hard to win close games. In a rivalry matchup like this, where every possession matters, Mason cannot afford long scoring droughts.

George Washington

George Washington has had its own struggles recently, but the difference is they may have just steadied themselves. The Revolutionaries had lost four straight and six of seven before outlasting Rhode Island on Tuesday in Washington, D.C.

Even with that win, the spread results have been ugly. George Washington has four straight spread losses, which is important because it shows the market has been ahead of their true performance.

The key storyline is the absence of top scorer Rafael Castro. He averages 15.9 points per game and has missed the past two weeks with a foot injury. His absence has mattered, because he was missing during a run of close losses where his interior scoring and stability could have been the difference.

From a handicap angle, the short bus ride to Foggy Bottom is actually a good spot for George Mason to recover. But if Castro cannot play again, George Washington still has to find consistent offense without their best scorer.

With that said, I still lean toward George Washington here because the market has moved in their direction, and I agree with that shift. The spread has pushed from -1.5 to -2.5, and the public numbers show support on the home side.

  • George Washington has drawn the majority of public action at GW 75% of bets and GW 67% of money.
  • The spread moved from George Washington -1.5 to George Washington -2.5.
  • The total has dropped from 150.5 down to 148.5.
  • George Washington is on a 6-1 under run heading into tonight.
  • George Washington has four straight spread losses despite Tuesdayโ€™s win over Rhode Island.
  • George Masonโ€™s offense has struggled with Kory Mincy shooting 7-for-25 over the last three games.

Key Injuries and Notes (GMU vs GW)

  • George Masonโ€™s top scorer Kory Mincy is in a slump with just 19 total points over his last three games.
  • Rafael Castro (15.9 ppg) has missed the past two weeks for George Washington with a foot injury.
  • George Washington snapped a four-game losing streak by beating Rhode Island on Tuesday in D.C.
  • George Mason has taken losses to Duquesne and Richmond within the last nine days.

ATS and Total Picks

  • ATS Pick: George Washington -2.5 (-115)
  • Total Pick: Under 148.5 (-105)

Final Score Prediction

  • Projected Final Score: George Washington 75, George Mason 71

How to Bet

This is the type of rivalry game where I want to keep the bet simple. The line has already moved toward George Washington, and I agree with that direction. With George Masonโ€™s offense sputtering and George Washington trending toward unders lately, I am comfortable pairing a home spread lean with a lower-scoring game script.
