George Mason is a well-balanced, upperclassmen-led team
George Mason (19-2 SU, 11-9 ATS, and 10-10 O/U) is second in the A-10 with a 7-1 conference record. The Pats have won nine of their last ten, with their A-10 loss last week on the road at Rhode Island. They bounced back earlier this week with a 60-52 home win over Davidson, a game they trailed by six at halftime. The Patriots shot 45 percent from the field and held the Wildcats to 36 percent. They also won the rebounding battle and outscored Davidson in the paint.
The Patriots went 27-9 last season, including 15-3 in Atlantic 10 competition. They were co-champions, claiming their first A-10 regular season title since 2011 and advancing to the second round of the NIT. GMU is coached by Tony Skin, a former Patriots guard who has a 66-23 record (31-13 in A-10 play) since taking the head coaching duties in 2023. KenPom rates George Mason 76th in the nation, including 75th in offensive efficiency and 83rd in defensive efficiency.

Senior guard Brayden O'Connor, a Preseason All-A-10 selection, is the team's leading returner. Unfortunately, he was injured in the Patriots' first game of the season with a foot injury and hasn't suited up since. George Mason welcomed nine transfers and four frosh ahead of the 2025-26 season, including four collegiate players who averaged ten-plus points last season. A few Patriots stars to watch on Saturday against St. Bonaventure are junior guard Kory Mincy (16.7 PPG, 4.0 RPG, and 3.5 APG), junior forward Riley Allenspach (13.3 PPG and 6.0 RPG), and senior guard Jahari Long (11.1 PPG and 3.6 APG).
George Mason Patriots Injury Report:
- Allenspach is questionable with an undisclosed injury.
Bonnies can be deadly from beyond the arc
St. Bonaventure (13-8 SU, 7-13 ATS, and 15-5 O/U) is 12th in the A-10 with a 2-6 conference record. The Bonnies are 3-7 both straight-up and against the spread in their last ten, and the over went 9-1. They have won two of their previous three games, taking down Duquesne by eight earlier this week. St. Bonaventure shot 56 percent overall, including 50 percent from long range, and scored 21 at the foul line. They also added 22 fast break points and 18 off the Dukes' ten turnovers.
KenPom rates the Bonnies 148th in the nation, including 103rd in offensive efficiency and 241st in defensive efficiency. St. Bonaventure scores 77.6 points per game (194th) on 46.5 percent shooting (114th), including 36.8 percent from three-point distance (43rd). Defensively, the Bonnies surrender 74.1 points per game (156th) on 46.0 percent shooting (292nd), including 36.3 percent from deep (326th).
St. Bonaventure is led by junior guard Darryl Simmons II, who scores 16.2 points per game on 44.4 percent shooting. He also hits 42.1 percent of his three-pointers and 92.3 percent of his foul shots. George Mason vs. St. Bonaventure Pick and Preview
Spread Pick for George Mason vs. St. Bonaventure
- Patriots cover (4 Units)
The Rams upset George Mason last weekend with a strong defensive effort, but that isn't likely to happen twice. The Bonnies are just inside the top-250 in defensive efficiency, as they're weak inside the arc (247th in opponent 2PT%). They also struggle to prevent second-chance buckets, ranking 251st in average opponent second-chance conversion percentage, per Haslametrics. The Pats shoot 55 percent inside the arc and are tough to stop around the rim, ranking 71st in near-proximity shooting percentage. They should also have a decent rebounding advantage (44th in total rebounding percentage). The Bonnies can knock down the three-ball at a high rate, but the Patriots are stout on the perimeter (31.7% opponent 3PT%). If those shots aren't falling, they'll collapse under the pressure, allowing George Mason to pull away and cover the spread.
Over/Under Pick for George Mason vs. St. Bonaventure
- Over (5 Units)
Betting Trends: The over is a combined 25-15 in these teams' games this season. It's 9-1 in the Bonnies' previous ten.
GMU plays at a slow pace, but I expect the visitors to score in bunches against St. Bonaventure's weak defense. They should also get to the free-throw line often (fourth-highest FT attempt rate), scoring additional points with the game clock stopped. On the other end of the court, the higher-tempo Bonnies will push the pace and turn this into a higher-scoring game than expected. While I don't believe they are capable of keeping pace with George Mason for the majority of the game, they should have some success around the rim (top-75 in near-proximity attempt rate), and they're one of the most reliable teams in the country at the foul line, where they shoot 76.3 percent.
