GW Stunned in Defeat vs. Fordham

The George Washington Revolutionaries are seeking their fifth A10 win of the season. George Washington has been hit or miss in A10 play. They were 3-1 but now stand at 4-5 in conference action. They lost to Dayton and scored 100+ points in a win against Loyola Chicago in the early stages of A10 play.

The Revolutionaries defeated Richmond a few weeks ago, along with a defeat against St. Louis last week. The squad had more defensive woes in a 79-65 home defeat against Fordham on Saturday in a clash that had the Revolutionaries marked as 12-point favorites. G.W. shot 39% in the effort, and Fordham issued a 49% mark. The Revolutionaries have covered in two of their past five games.

Rafael Castro is having an outstanding season. The senior forward has surpassed 20 points in five games this season. He dropped 12 points on Saturday and has recorded an average of 15.9 PPG and 9 RPG. Garrett Johnson has scored 11 or more points in five of his last six games. The junior forward has issued an average of 13.2 PPG.

Trey Autry has sunk 50% of his shots in two of his last five efforts. The junior guard is a threat from beyond the arc and is averaging 10.6 PPG on the year. Christian Jones scored 13 points in the defeat this past weekend. The sophomore guard has posted 10.9 PPG. Tre Dinkins has scored double digits in just one of his past five games. The senior guard has yielded 10.5 PPG.

The Revolutionaries are ranked 78th in DI in Ken Pomeroy’s ratings and are 2-3 on the road, including a defeat against Dayton. George Washington is averaging 83.8 points on the season, ranking them 35th. The Revolutionaries have conceded 69 or fewer points in three of their past six games and are keeping opponents to an average of 75 points, pegging them 180th.

St. Joseph's Earns Third Straight Win

The St. Joseph’s Hawks are home after two straight road games. St. Joseph’s is in a groove, winning three straight games led by the offense. They were 0-2 to begin A10 action and now stand at 6-3 in conference play. The Hawks lost to Davidson and beat Duquesne to begin January.

The Hawks wrapped January with a home win against Dayton in which they were the dogs, accompanied by a road win against Loyola Chicago. The success continued in a 67-58 road win against La Salle on Saturday. The Hawks were 2.5-point favorites in that one. They connected on 42% of their shots, and the defense was key in the win, keeping La Salle to just 39% shooting. The Hawks have covered the spread in five straight games.

Jaiden Glover-Tosano is capable of taking over a game. The sophomore guard has been a beast, scoring at least 20 points on nine occasions. He dropped 16 points on Saturday and has registered an average of 15.6 PPG. Derek Simpson has also been steady, amassing at least 15 points in three of his past five games. The senior guard has netted 13 PPG.

Dasear Haskins has sunk 50% of his shots in three straight outings. The sophomore guard is averaging 11.2 PPG and 6.5 RPG on the season. Austin Williford has scored double digits in one of his last five games. The freshman guard has posted 6.8 PPG. Justice Ajogbor scored three on Saturday. He has been solid off the bench. The senior center has reported 5.1 PPG accompanied by 5 RPG.

St. Joseph’s is marked 150th in the country in Ken Pomeroy’s ratings. The Hawks are dominant at home, as seen in their 9-2 record. St. Joseph’s is scoring an average of 73 points on the year, rating them 221st. The Hawks' defense is a strength. They have conceded 65 or fewer in five of their past seven games and are holding opponents to 72.9 points, placing them 125th.

Spread Pick for George Washington vs. St. Joseph’s

  • George Washington Revolutionaries -2.5 (5 units)

The George Washington Revolutionaries are not happy after an upset home loss against Fordham, and I expect them to come out flying in this game. This is one of the best offensive squads of any mid-major team in DI. The St. Joseph’s Hawks are also winning games, but are playing above their heads and are due to regress.

Furthermore, George Washington is the stronger team here, especially when it comes to scoring. They are averaging 119 points per 100 possessions compared to just 106.5 points per 100 by St. Joseph’s. Also, George Washington attempts more threes than average and is shooting a sharp 36% from deep on the season. They should have more success against a Hawks team pegged 155th in the country in three-point defense. Go with George Washington to answer with a road victory in this one.

Over/Under Pick for George Washington vs. St. Josephs

  • Over 153 (5 units)

I expect plenty of scoring. George Washington has a potent offense. They rank 56th out of 360 teams in adjusted offensive efficiency and are consistent. They have scored 76 or more points in seven of their last 10 games.

In addition, St. Joseph’s is clicking in the offensive end, sinking an average of 77 points in its past three games. The Revolutionaries have conceded an average of 76 points in five road games this season. The Revolutionaries' defense has been shaky the past few games. They have surrendered 79 points in two straight games.
