These teams will be meeting for the 78th time in this Big East rivalry and Georgetown vs. UConn prediction. Georgetown (13-11, 5-8 BEast) started at the bottom, but they've moved to the middle of the pack in the Big East. UConn (23-2, 13-1 BEast) sits in first place, a half game ahead of St. John's. The Hoyas gave the No. 6 Huskies all they could handle on Jan. 17, with UConn winning 64-62 from Washington D.C. Hoyas back to play competitively

Georgetown last won a regular-season championship in the Big East in 2013, though they did shock the sporting world with a 2021 conference tournament title. After winning four straight games before falling at home to Villanova, 80-73, last Saturday, at least we can finally talk about the Hoyas as a competitive team in the Big East. Before winning four straight, the Hoyas had lost six straight games and were looking like they'd finish near the bottom of the league again.

Their biggest issue against Nova was shooting just 7 of 25 from the three-point line and they also shot 32.3% from the field in the second half. Malik Mack scored 21 points to lead Georgetown, while shooting 7 of 15 from the field. KJ Lewis leads the Hoyas with 15.1 points and adds 5.3 rebounds, while Mack contributes 14.5 points and 4.3 assists, but shoots just 37.6% from the field.

According to KenPom, Georgetown ranks 80th overall, 87th in Adjusted Offensive Efficiency and 89th in Adjusted Defense. The Hoyas rank 128th overall in total rebounding percentage.

UConn will be tough to beat

The Huskies could lose a game or more during the regular season, but when it comes to the NCAA Tournament, they will be tough to beat. It starts with Dan Hurley, who already has two NCAA titles and potentially has another contender. That's not to say UConn is unbeatable because St. John's just upset them 81-72 from New York City on Feb. 6. They bounced back with an 80-70 win over Butler on the road as an 11.5-point favorite. Solo Ball led the Huskies with 24 points, while Tarris Reed Jr. contributed 16 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists and three blocks. UConn shot 51% from the field and 42% (13-of-31) from three-point range.

Butler got the lead down to two, before the Huskies went on a 16-8 run over the final seven minutes. UConn has been playing some tight games, with seven conference games decided by 10 points or fewer. UConn ranks 8th overall by KenPom, 20th in Adjusted Offensive Efficiency and 8th in Adjusted Defense. They also rank 28th in total rebounding percentage.

Ball leads the Huskies with 14.5 points per game is shooting 41.5% from the field, while Reed adds 14.1 points and 7.8 rebounds with 2.1 blocks per game.

Spread Picks and Prediction for Georgetown vs. UConn

Georgetown vs. UConn Odds and Picks

  • Georgetown +16.5 (5 units)

Georgetown is back to where they were in the Patrick Ewing and Allen Iverson years, but Ed Cooley has them believing that they can beat anybody in the Big East. In the first meeting, they held the Huskies to just 36% from the field and 19% (5 of 26) from long range. Defense travels as the Hoyas are holding opponents to just 40.7% shooting and 31.8% from three-point range on the road. They are also 4-4 on the road and have covered three of their last four away from home. UConn has covered just two of their last nine games.

Total Pick for Georgetown vs. UConn

  • Under 136.5 (4 units)

Both of these teams are pretty slow when it comes to pace of play. UConn is 316th in Adjusted Tempo, while the Hoys are 244th. Both squads are also very good on the defensive end. Georgetown has gone under in six of its last seven games. The first game went well under the total and the second meeting will have a similar result and a rock fight type of game.
