Georgia State has been an inefficient offensive team
Georgia State (1-3 SU, 1-2 ATS, and 0-3 O/U) beat Fort Valley State 90-56 on Thursday. The Panthers lost to Eastern Michigan, Cincinnati, and Presbyterian in their first three games. They have struggled on offense, shooting under 40 percent from the field despite hitting nearly 35 percent of their three-pointers.

Georgia State went 14-19 last season, finishing 8-10 in the Sun Belt Conference. They are led by fourth-year head coach Jonas Hayes, who has a 38-60 record with the team, finishing no higher than seventh in the conference standings. The Panthers were picked to finish 11th (out of 14 teams) in the Sun Belt's preseason poll.
The Panthers are led by redshirt junior Jelani Hamilton, who earned 2025-26 Preseason All-Sun Belt honors after scoring 10.8 points per game last season. Georgia State returns six players from the previous season, including starters Hamilton and junior guard Malachi Brown (7.9 PPG and 3.4 APG last season). Hayes also brought in nine newcomers to the 2025-26 roster, including seven transfers and two freshmen. Sophomore forward Joah Chappelle is off to a hot start (13.5 PPG and 8.5 RPG), as is freshman guard Micah Tucker (9.5 PPG), and sophomore guard Jakai Newton (8.5 PPG and 3.0 RPG).
Georgia State Panthers Basketball Injury Report: Hamilton (hamstring) is questionable.
Sun Devils battled against Gonzaga
Arizona State (2-1 SU, 2-0-1 ATS, and 0-3 O/U) defeated Southern Utah (81-64) and Utah Tech (81-66) in its first two games of the college hoops season, losing 77-65 to Gonzaga on Saturday. ASU trailed by 13 at the half but didn't relent against the Zags, despite a poor shooting performance (36%). The Bulldogs dominated on the boards (+14 rebounding margin), but only shot 43 percent, including 29 percent from deep.
The Sun Devils were 13-20 last season, finishing 4-16 in Big 12 Conference competition (15th place). After the regular season, they were invited to participate in the inaugural College Basketball Crown tournament, where they lost in the first round to Nebraska. ASU is led by 11th-year head coach Bobby Hurley, who has compiled a 168-152 record in Tempe. The 2025-26 Sun Devils squad was picked to finish 16th (last) in the Big 12's preseason poll.
Arizona State has a new-look roster for this season, with only two returnees. Hurley added one freshman and seven transfers this past offseason in an effort to get back over .500 and cool off his hot seat. 7-foot-1 frosh center Mor Massamba Diop leads the team in scoring (14.3PPG, 5.0 RPG, 1.7 BPG, and 1.7 SPG). Three other Sun Devils are averaging double-digit points: senior Pepperdine transfer guard Maurice Odum (11.7 PPG, 7.0 APG, and 2.0 SPG), senior University of Cumberlands transfer guard Anthony Johnson (11.3 PPG and 3.3 APG), and senior Oakland transfer forward Allen Mukeba (10.5 PPG and 4.5 RPG). Senior guard Adante' Holiman, a Georgia Southern transfer, has yet to suit up, but is expected to be a key player after averaging 16.9 points per game last season. Junior guard Marcus Adams Jr. (3.7 PPG), a top recruit who signed with Kansas out of high school, is another player to watch.
Arizona State Sun Devils Basketball Injury Report: Holiman (elbow) is questionable to play.
Georgia State vs. Arizona State Pick and Preview
Spread Pick for Georgia State vs. Arizona State
- Sun Devils -18.5 (4 Units)
ASU battled to keep it close against Gonzaga, and that effort will carry into Monday's game. The Panthers' top scorer is hampered by a hamstring injury, and their depth behind him is weak, as only one other Panther averages double-digit points. How can they keep pace? Georgia State has shot just 37 percent from the field this season, as it has struggled to score inside the arc (355th in 2PT%). That's a cause for concern on the road against Hurley's tough-minded group. The Panthers have also been turnover-prone (305th in turnovers per offensive play).
Over/Under Pick for Georgia State vs. Arizona State
- Over 146.5 (4 Units)
The home team is slightly faster-paced than the visitors, and I believe they'll be eager to make a statement after a close tangle with Gonzaga, pushing the total over 146. ASU has several quality scoring guards and a big man worth monitoring in Diop, making the Sun Devils a tough matchup defensively for the visiting Panthers. Georgia State has allowed 88.0 points per game and scored 88.0 per game, suggesting they're more interested in a back-and-forth game than playing defense. They'll be competitive in spurts in the first half or so, battling the home team well enough to push the total over.
