Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (10-8) vs. NC State Wolfpack (12-5)

Another exciting Saturday of college basketball is upon us, and in this preview, we are breaking down the ACC showdown from Lenovo Center in Raleigh, NC, to get you the Georgia Tech vs. NC State prediction.

Last season, Georgia Tech routed NC State 87-62 to snap its four-game skid in this series. The Yellow Jackets were 3.5-point home favorites, and the game flew over the 140-point line. However, the Yellow Jackets are 14.5-point road underdogs this time around, while the total sits at 155.5 points.

Let’s take a closer look at this Georgia Tech vs. NC State prediction, one of our NCAAB picks for Saturday’s card. The tip-off at Lenovo Center is set at noon PM ET.

Georgia Tech hopes to snap its skid

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (10-8; 8-10 ATS; 12-6 O/U) have gone 1-4 SU and 3-2 ATS since conference play started. They are winless in three straight outings, sandwiching a 91-81 road loss at Miami with a pair of home defeats against Syracuse 82-72 and Pittsburgh 89-66.

Last Wednesday, the Yellow Jackets suffered a heavy loss against Pittsburgh, playing as small 1.5-point underdogs. The Yellow Jackets made 40.0% of their field goals (8-for-20 from deep) while playing awful defense. Junior guard Kam Craft led the way with 14 points and four rebounds.

Senior guard Kowacie Reeves is the best player on this Georgia Tech team. He tallies 15.8 points and 4.2 rebounds per game, while junior forward Baye Ndongo posts 12.2 points and 7.8 boards a night. Freshman center Mouhamed Sylla (10.2 PPG, 7.5 RPG) missed the Pittsburgh game with an injury and is questionable for Saturday’s clash against NC State.

Georgia Tech is No. 163 in the NCAA NET Rankings. The Yellow Jackets score 107.7 points per 100 possessions (192nd in the nation) and allow 106.3 points in return (112th). They are 31st in the nation in opposing 3-point percentage (29.8), but their defensive 3-point rate ranks 288th (.432).

NC State continues to impress

The NC State Wolfpack (12-5; 9-8 ATS; 9-8 O/U) have gone 5-1 SU and 4-2 ATS in their last six games overall. After stopping their three-game winning streak with a 76-61 defeat to No. 21 Virginia, the Wolfpack have won consecutive road games over Boston College 79-71 and Florida State 113-69.

Last Saturday, the Wolfpack dismantled the Seminoles, playing as 4.5-point favorites. NC State held Florida State to 39.3% shooting from the field (5-for-23 from deep) while making 55.1% of its field goals (19-for-35 from deep). Senior forward Darrion Williams led the way for NC State with a line of 20 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists.

The Wolfpack are now 3-1 in conference play. Williams averages 14.6 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 3.3 assists. Sophomore guard Paul McNeil tallies 14.1 points and 4.3 rebounds per game, and senior guard Quadir Copeland adds 13.5 points, 6.1 assists, and 3.2 boards a night.

NC State is No. 29 in the NCAA NET Rankings. The Wolfpack score 122.1 points per 100 possessions (30th in the country) and surrender 99.6 points in return (35th). They are fifth in the nation in 3-point percentage (40.1%) and 64th in 3-point rate (.450).

Georgia Tech vs. NC State Pick

Spread Pick for Georgia Tech vs. NC State

  • NC State -14.5 (5 units)

This NC State team has five players with points per game in double digits, and four of them are seniors. The Wolfpack have been playing at a high level on both sides of the ball lately, and I expect another strong performance when they host the Yellow Jackets.

NC State takes good care of the ball. The Wolfpack are 19th in turnover percentage (14.1%), and I already mentioned how good their 3-point shooting has been this season. The Yellow Jackets will keep it close only if they hit a lot of triples.

Georgia Tech makes 35.6% of its shots from deep (85th), but the problem is that the Yellow Jackets are turnover-prone (274th in turnover percentage, 18.9%). The Wolfpack are 43rd in defensive turnover percentage (20.1%), and they certainly look like a better rebounding team than Georgia Tech.

Over/Under Pick for Georgia Tech vs. NC State

  • Over 155.5 (5 units)

Neither side plays at a slow pace. Georgia Tech records 70.8 possessions per 40 minutes (50th in the nation), while NC State tallies 69.4 possessions per 40 minutes (103rd). The Wolfpack will continue to play aggressive defense on the ball, and I expect them to force a lot of turnovers and push the ball in transition whenever they can. The Yellow Jackets will lean on 3-pointers, trying to keep it close.

Hereof, give me the over. Georgia Tech just gave up 89 points to Pittsburgh, and the Yellow Jackets have allowed 81 or more points in six of their previous seven games overall. On the other side, NC State has surpassed an 80-point mark just once in its last five games overall, but the Wolfpack just dropped 113 points on Florida State.
