Hoosiers are a brand-new team this season
Indiana (1-0 SU, 1-0 ATS, and 1-0 O/U) coasted to a win in its first game, jumping out to a sizable lead and never looking back. The Hoosiers led 58-22 at halftime, shooting 62 percent overall in the game. They assisted on 23 of their 36 made field goals and scored 52 points in the paint. The Bulldogs were held to 34 percent shooting and just 20 points in the paint. IU also beat Baylor 76-74 in an exhibition game at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on October 26.
Indiana was 19-13 last season, including 10-10 in Big Ten play. The Hoosiers missed the NCAA Tournament and declined invitations to other postseason tourneys. Fourth-year head coach Mike Woodson stepped down at the end of the season, opening the door for Darian DeVries to take the job. DeVries spent last season leading West Virginia to a 19-13 record and was a combined 150-55 in the previous six seasons coaching Drake. Indiana has 13 new scholarship players, returning zero points from last season's squad. The Hoosiers were picked to finish 10th out of 18 teams in the Big Ten's preseason media poll.

With ten transfers and five freshmen, there are a lot of new faces in Bloomington. IU raided several mid-major programs to build its 2025-26 roster, as only forwardsΒ Sam Alexis (Florida) and Tucker DeVries (West Virginia) came from Power-4 teams. The coach's son, DeVries, was the most impactful addition, as the senior forward is a five-year starter with career averages of 17.7 points and 5.6 rebounds with a 36.8% mark from three-point range. The Hoosiers' starting rotation is pretty small, with an emphasis on ballhandlers who can score and push the basketball in transition. A few players to watch are senior guard Lamar Wilkerson (20.5 PPG at Sam Houston last season), senior guard Tayton Connerway (14.2 PPG and 4.8 APG at Troy), and senior forward Reed Bailey (18.8 PPG and 6.1 RPG at Davidson).
Indiana Hoosiers Basketball Injury Report:Β G Jordan Rayford is out for Sunday's game against Marquette. G Nick Dorn, G Aleksa Ristic, G Jason Drake, and F Josh Harris are questionable.
Marquette is relying on homegrown talent
Marquette (2-0 SU, 1-1 ATS, and 1-1 O/U) put a lot of points in the second half of its first two games. The Golden Eagles started slow against the Great Danes, but exploded for 50 second-half points. They added 27 at the foul line and 21 fast-break points. In Wednesday's victory, they only led by six at halftime, but poured on 57 after the break. MU was more efficient from three against the Jaguars (38.9%) and scored 31 points in transition.
The Golden Eagles were 23-11 last season, tied for fourth place with a 13-7 mark in Big East competition. The season ended on a sour note, though, as they lost to New Mexico in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Marquette is led by fifth-year head coach Shaka Smart, who has compiled a 100-41 record with four straight NCAA Tournament appearances (one Sweet 16). Top scorers Kam Jones, David Joplin, and Stevie Mitchell exhausted their eligibility, but it's time for new players to step up.
Marquette was picked to finish fifth in the Big East's preseason poll. Senior guard Chase Ross is averaging 19.0 points with 5.5 assists and 5.0 rebounds so far after starting 34 games last season. His backcourt mates are junior guards Sean Jones and Zaide Lowery, who are the Golden Eagles' second and third-leading scorers this season. Sophomore forward Royce Parham (all-Big East freshman team), sophomore forward Caedin Hamilton (12 points in 21 minutes versus Southern), and 6-11 senior forward Ben Gold (55 made threes last season) will also be key contributors. Smart clearly liked his roster, opting to avoid the transfer portal despite losing three veteran scorers. While the starting rotation is solid, that decision may affect Marquette's depth, as four freshmen could have significant roles off the bench. That's significant in Smart's fast-paced system.
Marquette Golden Eagles Basketball Injury Report: No injuries to report for Sunday's game versus Indiana.
Indiana vs. Marquette Pick and Preview
Spread Pick for Indiana vs. Marquette
- Golden Eagles cover spread (4 Units)
While Marquette's underclassmen will be challenged throughout the season, their adjustment to the game is less of a concern in tomorrow's game than Indiana's injuries. Without Drake or Ristic, the Hoosiers' depth is a major concern, as they won't go as deep into their bench as they'd like. The ball-handling duties are solely in the hands of Conerway and Enright, who will likely need to play 30-plus minutes. How fresh will they be by the end of the game against the high-tempo Golden Eagles and their pesky on-ball defenders? Marquette's pressure is relentless, and it makes the most of those opportunities in transition (26 fast-break PPG this season). If either Conerway or Enright gets into foul trouble, Indiana will be overwhelmed.
Bet on Marquette to cover in Sunday's non-conference clash with Indiana.
Over/Under Pick for Indiana vs. Marquette
- Over (4 Units)
I lean towards the over in this matchup. Indiana plans to play a smaller lineup this season and has a couple of capable playmakers in Enright and Conerway who can push the basketball down the court in transition to distribute to their shooters, Wilkerson and DeVries. The Hoosiers' depth will be tested on Sunday, but their starters are veteran playmakers and reliable scorers. The Golden Eagles will be on a clear mission to push the pace, as well. They are averaging 79.1 possessions through two games, the 53rd-fastest tempo in the country this season. Neither team will be active on the offensive boards, emphasizing the three-ball instead. Marquette lives beyond the arc (14th-most three-point attempts per game in 2024-25), and DeVries' Mountaineers' team averaged 26.5 threes per game (50th) last season.
