Iowa vs Washington Key Matchups and Handicap

Iowa earned an 85-79 home win over Washington last season, and this matchup again profiles as one where points should come fairly easily. The Hawkeyes have won four straight games and the over has cashed in five of their last seven, driven by strong offensive efficiency and a defense that continues to leak points inside.

Bennett Stirtz is playing at a very high level right now, coming off a 32-point performance on 12-of-15 shooting in Sunday’s road win over Oregon. Iowa has been out west for several days, which helps with the late 11:00PM ET start, and the Hawkeyes have already shown this season that the Pacific Time Zone is manageable for them.

Washington is trending upward as well. After a brutal early Big Ten stretch, the Huskies opened a softer run with a 14-point road win at Northwestern. Hannes Steinbach, Wesley Yates, and Zoom Diallo all scored 20-plus in that game, and Yates’ return from injury has clearly raised the offensive ceiling.

The key handicap angle is inside scoring. Iowa has allowed Big Ten opponents to shoot 55.5 percent on two-point attempts, near the bottom of the league. That is a problem against a Washington offense that wants to live in the paint. The Huskies are outside the top 300 nationally in three-point rate, with just 26.0 percent of their points coming from deep, so this is a matchup where their offensive identity lines up well with Iowa’s biggest defensive weakness.

Iowa has also sent opponents to the free throw line at one of the highest rates in the conference. Extra possessions and efficient interior scoring are a strong recipe for an over, especially with both teams showing recent offensive confidence.

  • The over is 5-2 in Iowa’s last seven games.
  • Iowa enters on a four-game winning streak.
  • Washington is coming off a 14-point road win at Northwestern.
  • The total has moved up from 138.5 to 140.0.
  • Public betting has leaned heavily toward the under despite the move higher.

Key Injuries and Notes for IOWA and WASH

  • No key injuries were listed for Iowa entering this matchup.
  • Washington has Wesley Yates back after missing six games earlier in conference play.

ATS and Total Picks

  • Against the Spread: Iowa -2.5
  • Total: Over 140.0

Final Score Prediction

Both teams should be able to score efficiently in their preferred areas, and the pace does not need to be extreme for this total to clear.

Final Score: Iowa 78, Washington 75
