Kansas State is off to a hot start offensively

Kansas State (5-1 SU, 3-3 ATS, and 6-0 O/U) lost 86-85 to Nebraska (ranked 40th nationally per KenPom) in its last game. It was an exciting, back-and-forth game, but K-State's second-half rally wasn't strong enough to overcome its ten-point halftime deficit. The Wildcats defeated UNC Greensboro (270th), Bellarmine (310th), Cal (79th), Tulsa (109th), and Mississippi State (70th) in their previous games this season.

KSU was picked 9th out of 16 teams in the Big 12's preseason media poll. They are coached by Jerome Tang, who is in his fourth season in that role (66-42 record). The Wildcats average 92.8 points per game (100th) on 52.1 percent shooting (22nd), including 43.3 percent from deep (8th). Defensively, they allow 79.5 points per game (193rd) on 46.4 percent shooting (299th), including 31.0 percent from beyond the arc (133rd).

K-State is led by junior guard P.J. Haggerty, who averages 28.0 points, 6.3 assists, and 5.3 rebounds per game. He has scored at least 23 points in each game this season, including 37 against Mississippi State. He's hardly the only Wildcat who can put the ball in the hoop, though. Four other players are averaging double-digit points: junior guard Abdi Bashir Jr. (14.3 PPG), senior guard Nate Johnson (13.7 PPG, 6.2 RPG, and 4.5 APG), sophomore guard David Castillo (11.8 PPG), and senior forward Khamari McGriff (11.7 PPG and 4.0 RPG). While all five starters are experienced college players, they all played elsewhere last season.

Hoosiers can get it done on both ends of the court

Indiana (5-0 SU, 3-2 ATS, and 3-2 O/U) beat Lindenwood (ranked 323rd nationally by KenPom) 73-53 in its last game (Nov. 20), failing to cover as 33-point spread favorites. The Hoosiers outscored the Lions 34-18 in the first half, but ended up shooting just 38 percent overall in the game. They have also picked up wins over Alabama A&M (312th), Marquette (76th), Milwaukee (222nd), and Incarnate Word (206th).

The Hoosiers were picked to finish 10th out of 18 teams in the Big Ten's preseason media poll. They are led by first-year coach Darian DeVries, who spent last season leading West Virginia to a 19-13 record and was a combined 150-55 in the previous six seasons coaching Drake. Indiana scores 88.2 points per game (147th) on 50.0 percent shooting (50th), including 39.4 percent from deep (32nd). Defensively, they surrender 62.4 points per game (17th) on 36.2 percent shooting (20th), including 28.7 percent from long range (79th).

With ten transfers and five freshmen, there are a lot of new faces in Bloomington. IU raided several mid-major programs to build its 2025-26 roster, as only forwards Sam Alexis (Florida) and Tucker DeVries (West Virginia) came from Power-4 teams. The coach's son, DeVries, was the most impactful addition, as the senior forward is a five-year starter with career averages of 17.8 points and 5.6 rebounds with a 37.2% mark from three-point range. He's hit 46.5 percent of his treys this season despite taking 8.6 per game. The Hoosiers' starting rotation is pretty small, with an emphasis on ballhandlers who can score and push the basketball in transition. A few players to watch are senior guard Lamar Wilkerson (17.0 PPG this season), senior forward Sam Alexis (11.4 PPG and 7.0 RPG), and senior guard Tayton Connerway (11.0 PPG and 6.0 APG).

Kansas State vs. Indiana Pick and Preview

Spread Pick for Kansas State vs. Indiana

  • K-State +7.5 (4 Units)

I'll take the Wildcats' side against the spread. They have been deadly offensively this season, ranking 12th nationally in eFG% (61.0%), as Haggerty has been an all-around playmaker. He will likely need to have a big game for Kansas State to cover, which isn't a concern considering how reliable he has been this season. Both he and Bashir are deadly three-point threats, and the Wildcats' top four scorers shoot between 40.9% and 52.0% from beyond the arc. That's a concern for the Hoosiers, who are laying too many points, in my opinion. They are coming off a couple of sleepy, underwhelming performances at home, while K-State has faced three Power 4 squads in its previous four games.

The Wildcats will be motivated to play after losing in the final second to the Cornhuskers and will keep the score close on Tuesday in Bloomington.

Over/Under Pick for Kansas State vs. Indiana

  • Under 158 (5 Units)

Indiana plays at a much slower tempo (248th nationally) than K-State (27th) and will do its best to control the pace at home. The Hoosiers are also stout enough defensively to give the high-scoring Cats some problems. They are 15th in defensive efficiency and 8th in opponent eFG%. The Wildcats can knock down enough three-pointers to cover the spread, but they won't shoot the lights out on the road in Assembly Hall. Indiana shouldn't try to get into a shootout with Kansas State, and I believe DeVries will have his team prepared to make a defensive statement.
