The Temple Owls (1-0) will host the La Salle Explorers (2-0) on Tuesday in Big Five action from Philadelphia. Temple was slated 173rd and La Salle No. 196 in the Sports Illustrated preseason ratings.

These rivals meet each season. Temple won five straight in this series from 2019-2023, but La Salle took the matchup 83-75 as a one-point favorite last year.

If you are struggling to pick winners, you've come to the right place. We have the best NCAAB Predictions available.

First test for the Owls

Leading the Temple Owls is head coach Adam Fisher, who will be entering his third season after going 16-20 in the 2023-24 season and 17-15 last season. The team also finished 173rd in the KenPom ratings last year.

Temple opened up this season last Wednesday by beating Delaware State 83-65. Leading the team in the victory were Aiden Tobiason (23 points, four steals), Gavin Griffiths (16 points), and Derrian Ford (14 points). Tobiason is a returner to the program after averaging 4.8 ppg and shooting 41.2% from three-point range last season. Griffiths is a transfer from Nebraska (2.1 ppg in 16 games), and Derrian Ford was a substantial contributor with Arkansas State, averaging 8.0 ppg last season.

Strong start for La Salle

The La Salle Explorers are off to a 2-0 start after routing Coppin State 87-59 and 73-60 Monmouth.

La Salle went 14-19 last season but only 5-13 in the A-10, and finished 229th in the KenPom ratings. The Explorers opened up this season with a new head coach in Darris Nichols who went  68-63 in four seasons with Radford.

Through the first three games, Jaeden Marshall (20.5 ppg), Ashton Walker (12 ppg, 6 rpg), and Jerome Brewer Jr (11.5 ppg) have led the team. Marshall averaged 10.3 ppg last season with Niagara and Brewer put up 13.8 ppg with East Texas A&M. As for Ashton Walker, he is freshman a three-star recruit who was rated as the 48th best point guard in the country according to 247Sports.

La Salle vs Temple Predictions

ATS Pick for La Salle vs Temple Predictions:

  • Temple -6.5 (4 units)

Adam Fisher is in his third season with Temple and returns a strong core, including Aiden Tobiason and Babatunde Durodola, who both gained valuable experience starting as freshmen last season. The Owls also added transfers who bring depth, and Gavin Griffiths and Derrian Ford have already shown that they will be impact players. La Salle is off to a strong start, but this will be their toughest test yet. This Explorers team returns just one player from last year’s roster, and this will be their first road test under head coach Darris Nichols.

I’ll lean on Temple’s chemistry, size, and home-court edge to be the difference here.

Total Picks for La Salle vs Temple

  • Under 150.5  (4 units)

With plenty of roster turnover on both sides, and this being a rivalry inside the city of Philadelphia, and the first real test for both teams, expect a defensive, grind-it-out battle.

La Salle ranked 106th in adjusted tempo last season, but expect them to play slower this year under Darris Nichols, as his Radford team ranked 356th nationally in tempo. That shift is already showing, with La Salle sitting at 326th in adjusted tempo so far, while Temple is 223rd.

Expect points to be at a premium late, and grab the under.
