Tough road test for the Ragin’ Cajuns
The Ragin’ Cajuns are still searching for their identity with a 1-3 start, featuring losses to Ball State, Tulsa, and McNeese State, and a lone win against Southeastern Louisiana. The team's performance has been subpar on both ends of the floor, with the team ranking 264th overall according to KenPom, 260th offensively, and 250th on the defensive end.
Louisiana has struggled to score, averaging only 61.5 ppg on 40% from the field, and they are also coming off a discouraging 88–62 loss to McNeese. Jamyron Keller leads the team with 17 ppg, followed by Jaxon Olvera with 16 points and a team-best 5.5 rebounds per game, but depth appears to be a major concern. Last season, Olvera averaged 5.9 ppg at Pepperdine, and Keller put up 5.5 ppg at Oklahoma State, suggesting the two guards are now being asked to carry a much heavier load than they may be able to sustain. Louisiana is allowing 70.3 points per game and averages 31 rebounds, 9 assists, 5 steals, and 2.8 blocks per contest.
Okorie looks like the real deal
Stanford is off to a 3-0 start, having collected wins against Portland State, Montana, and Montana State. The Cardinal have demonstrated excellent balance, with a KenPom ranking of 87th overall, supported by an offense ranked 112th and a defense ranked 65th.
Freshman guard Ebuka Okorie has been sensational and is proving to be the team's best player, living up to his pre-season hype. He is averaging 25.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 3 steals, while shooting 56% field and 35.7% from three. Steady scoring contributions from Chisom Okpara (14.7 ppg) and Benny Gealer (13.7 ppg) complement Okorie, and AJ Rohosy provides a strong presence in the paint, averaging 11 ppg and a team-best seven rebounds per game.
As a unit, Stanford is scoring 85.7 points per game while giving up 71.7. They are shooting 46 % from the field and averaging 38 rebounds, 12 assists, and nearly 10 steals per game en route to their undefeated start.
Louisiana vs Stanford Prediction
ATS Pick for Louisiana vs. Stanford:
- Stanford -20.5 (4 units)
This matchup heavily favors the home team, as Stanford is clearly bigger, deeper, and more disciplined than the Ragin’ Cajuns. Louisiana has consistently struggled to score and defend through its first four games. While Stanford has multiple scoring threats and the emerging star talent of freshman Ebuka Okorie, Louisiana relies heavily on the backcourt duo of Jaxon Olvera and Jamyron Keller. Since both guards were role players at their previous programs, they have yet to prove they can carry a team on the road in a difficult matchup, and the depth behind them is lacking. Take the Cardinal to dominate and cover this large spread comfortably.
Total Pick for Louisiana vs. Stanford:
- Over 138.5 (3 units)
Stanford’s offense has been highly effective, scoring almost 86 points per game and ranking 89th in adjusted tempo. Louisiana prefers to play slower, but they will likely trail big in this game and get sped up as they also struggle to get stops. If the Ragin’ Cajuns can push their scoring into the low-to-mid 60s, Stanford should have no trouble clearing the remainder of the total by themselves.
I will go over, expecting an 81-59 Stanford win.
