The 2025-26 college basketball season continues Tuesday, November 11, with the Loyola Marymount Lions taking on the UTEP Miners in the non-conference battle at Don Haskins Center in El Paso, TX, and we’ve got the Loyola Marymount vs. UTEP prediction to get you covered.
It’s the third encounter between these two schools. Back in 1999, UTEP trounced Loyola Marymount 84-58, and the Lions got revenge two years ago, when they beat the Miners 67-47 as 3.5-point home favorites.

Loyola Marymount is off to a strong start
The Loyola Marymount Lions played three games in the opening week. After a 137-54 dismantling of Lincoln University (CA), the Lions recorded a couple of wins over the Division I teams, beating Eastern Washington 70-62 and Arkansas-Pine Bluff 94-72.

The Lions overcame a seven-point second-half deficit against Eastern Washington, and senior guard Myron Amey Jr. led the way with 22 points off the bench. Against Arkansas-Pine Bluff, the Lions went 18-for-39 from deep, and junior guard Rodney Brown Jr. led the charge with 28 points.
Loyola Marymount returns 34.5% of minutes played and 29.9% of scoring from its 2024-25 roster. The Lions went 17-15 overall and 8-10 in conference play last season, scoring 104.4 points per 100 possessions (216th in the country) and allowing 103.6 points in return (110th).
UTEP had an easy job in the opening week
The UTEP Miners won a couple of games in the opening week. However, those two games are not a proper benchmark, as the Miners hosted a pair of Division II teams. UTEP beat UT Permian Basin 98-56 and Western New Mexico 107-70.
The Miners made 54.1% of their field goals against UT Permian Basin. They outscored the Falcons 46-14 in the paint, and junior forward Kaseem Watson led the charge with 18 points and eight rebounds. The Miners shot 58.3% from the field against Western New Mexico, and five guys scored in double figures, including junior F Elijah Jones, who had 16 points, seven boards, and five blocks.
UTEP returns just 14.3% of minutes played and 11.1% of scoring from its 2024-25 roster. Last season, the Miners went 18-15 overall and 7-11 in conference play, scoring 105.8 points per 100 possessions (195th in the nation) and surrendering 104.3 points in return (124th).
Loyola Marymount vs. UTEP Pick
Spread Pick for Loyola Marymount vs. UTEP
- Loyola Marymount (4 units)
This is a tricky game to bet on simply because of UTEP’s schedule. The Miners were attacking the rim a lot in the opening week, but it was easy to do so against the Division II teams. Now, the Miners will have to deal with a much tougher opposition.
I will lean on what I saw from Loyola Marymount. The Lions made 41.5% of their 3-pointers while taking more than half of their shots from beyond the arc. They took good care of the ball and played solid defense. Hereof, give me the Lions.
Over/Under Pick for Loyola Marymount vs. UTEP
- Under (4 units)
When it comes to size and length, these two teams match up against each other very well. Last season, both schools played at a steady pace while leaning on a tough defense, and I expect more of the same in 2025-26.
I’m not looking for a high-scoring affair even though the Lions rank eighth in the country in 3-point rate (.551). The Miners don’t look like a great 3-point shooting team, and they will try to slow things down as much as possible. UTEP will have a tall task to force the Lions into turnovers, so the Miners need to take good care of the ball.
