Marquette Looking to Earn Road Upset

Marquette was beaten soundly by Wisconsin on the road in their previous contest and things don’t get easier here as they travel to take on a good Purdue squad. The Golden Eagles fell to 5-5 on the season and hope to avoid falling below .500 on the year. Against Wisconsin, Marquette gave up the first four points and never got even again in a game they never led. The Golden Eagles trailed by 12 at the half and by as many as 27 in the second half en route to the loss. Marquette shot 42% from the field, including nine of 29 from three-point range, bricked 10 of their 19 free throw attempts and lost the rebounding battle 46-33 in the game. Ben Gold (9.5 points, 7.2 rebounds) and Zaide Lowery (8.9 points, 3.2 rebounds) provide solid secondary scoring options. Nigel James Jr. (12.2 points, 3.6 assists), Royce Parham, Sean Jones, Caedin Hamilton, Adrien Stevens, Damarius Owens, Tre Norman, Michael Phillips II and Joshua Clark are key contributors for coach Shaka Smart. Boilermekers Seeking Back-to-Back Wins

Purdue was a bit sluggish in the opening half against Minnesota as they maybe had a hangover after getting shellacked by #10 Iowa State but regrouped in the second half to win convincingly. The Boilermakers improved to 9-1 overall and stand 2-0 in Big Ten play on the year. Against Minnesota, Purdue was up just 35-32 at the half before burying the Golden Gophers with a 31-4 run to start the second half before coasting the rest of the way. The Boilermakers shot 53.4% from the floor, including eight of 19 from three-point range, and dominated the glass by a 46-23 margin. Braden Smith paced Purdue with 15 points, six rebounds and 12 assists in the win.

This season, Purdue puts up an average of 85.2 points a game, putting them 66th in the nation in scoring offense. Marquette vs. Purdue Spread Pick

  • Purdue -18.5 (4 units)

Purdue showed just how dominant they can be in the opening 11 minutes of the second half against Minnesota. Turning a three-point margin into a 30-point bulge while allowing just two buckets in that span shows how dangerous they can be. Marquette is sitting at .500 on the year but their best win on the season came over a Valparaiso team ranked 198th in the KenPom rankings and that came by three, in overtime, at home. Their lone road contest was the blowout at Wisconsin last Saturday and going to West Lafayette is a nightmare trip for a squad with limited talent. Purdue has a ton of talent, they have size and they can do damage inside or outside. Look for the Boilemakers to roll at home here.

Marquette vs. Purdue Over/Under Pick

  • Over 153.5 (4 units)

Marquette has seen the over post a 6-4 mark on the year. The Golden Eagles are 237th in effective field goal percentage (49.1%), 67th in turnover percentage (15.3%) and 116th in offensive rebounding percentage (33.3%) this season. Marquette stands 67th in tempo according to KenPom with 70.8 possessions per game. Purdue has seen the under post a 7-3 mark in their five games in 2025-26. The Boilermakers are first in offensive efficiency, 24th in effective field goal percentage (57.9%), 50th in turnover percentage (14.8%), 11th in three-point shooting (40.2%) and 40th in field goal percentage (49.9%) on the year. Purdue is just 321st in tempo with 65.9 possessions per game according to KenPom. Seeing how Marquette has given up plenty of points this season, Purdue gets their fair share here and edges this game over the number.
