The RedHawks lead the Mid-American Conference basketball standings with a 10-0 record, but Akron is just one game back. While ranked 23rd in the AP Poll, KenPom rates Miami (OH) as the 89th-best team in the country, with its weak strength of schedule (337th nationally) the culprit. They didn't face a major conference opponent during non-conference play and have zero quad wins and only two quad two wins (Akron and Wright State). The RedHawks are a prolific offensive team, averaging 93.8 points per game (3rd) on 53.5 percent shooting (1st), including 40.1 percent from beyond the arc (6th). They also shoot 77.1 percent at the foul line (28th). Defensively, they surrender 74.5 points per game (158th) on 42.9 percent shooting (131st) and 32.0 percent three-point shooting (99th).

Sophomore guard Brant Byers paces Miami (OH) in scoring, averaging 15.4 points with 4.1 rebounds per game. He hits 51.7 percent of his field goals and 42.0 percent of his threes. A few other RedHawks to watch in Tuesday's MAC game against Buffalo are senior guard Peter Suder (14.3 PPG, 4.5 RPG, and 4.3 APG), junior guard Evan Ipsaro (13.9 PPG and 3.3 APG), and junior guard Eian Elmer (11.6 PPG and 6.0 RPG).

Miami (OH) Redhawks Injury Report:

  • No new injuries.

Buffalo is 1-6 in its previous seven games

Buffalo (14-8 SU, 12-8 ATS, and 12-8 O/U) lost 95-83 at home to Ohio on Saturday, failing to cover as 2.5-point spread favorites. The Bulls trailed by 15 at halftime and never recovered, as the Bobcats scored 50 points in the paint. Buffalo hit 56 percent of its field goals, but Ohio attempted 14 more shots, as the Bobcats grabbed 13 offensive rebounds and forced 13 Bulls turnovers.

Buffalo started the season 13-2, but has dropped six of its last seven games. The Bulls are 4-6 in MAC play, six games back of the RedHawks in the conference standings. KenPom ranks Buffalo 184th nationally, including 93rd in offensive efficiency and 303rd in defensive efficiency. UB averages 80.2 points per game (137th) on 48.5 percent shooting (36th), including 39.3 percent from three-point distance (10th). The Bulls allow 75.7 points per game (192nd) and their opponents shoot 46.4 percent overall (309th), including 33.5 percent from beyond the arc (179th).

Sophomore guard Daniel Freitag paces Buffalo in scoring at 20.1 points per game. He also averages 4.5 rebounds and 3.8 dimes per game. A few other Bulls to watch on Tuesday against Miami (OH) are junior guard Ryan Sabol (18.5 PPG and 3.5 APG), senior guard Angelo Brizzi (11.7 PPG), and sophomore center Tim Oboh (8.0 PPG and 4.0 RPG).

Miami (OH) vs. Buffalo Pick and Preview

Spread Pick for Miami (OH) vs. Buffalo

  • RedHawks -4.5 (4 Units)

Buffalo took Miami to overtime in the first matchup, but I lean towards the RedHawks to cover the 4.5-point spread in Tuesday's rematch. The Bulls have been trending down recently, going 2-5 against the spread in their last seven games, ranking 301st nationally in Haslametrics' Momentum metric. They should be able to produce enough points to keep it interesting for a while, but their defense is unlikely to get enough stops to cover the spread. The Bulls are 323rd in opponent two-point percentage and 331st in average opponent near-proximity shooting percentage, and the RedHawks rank 4th in two-point percentage and 28th in near-proximity shooting percentage.

Miami (OH) will be tough to handle inside the paint again (50 points in game one) and will be better prepared to lock up Buffalo's shooters on the perimeter on defense in the rematch. Bet on the Redhawks -4.5.

Over/Under Pick for Miami (OH) vs. Buffalo

  • Over 164.5 (5 Units)

Betting Trends: The over is 26-13 in Miami (OH) and Buffalo's games this season, including 7-3 in the RedHawks' last ten and 7-3 in the Bulls' previous ten.

This is a high total, but I expect plenty of scoring action in Tuesday's MAC clash in Buffalo. Both teams are efficient offensive squads, ranking 4th and 27th in effective FG%. They're also both capable of hitting plenty of three-pointers and foul shots. They combined for 207 points in the first matchup, knocking down 26 combined threes and 35 free throws. There was also plenty of scoring off turnovers (35 points), which isn't surprising considering Buffaloand Miami rank 305th and 206th, respectively, in potential quick points allowed off breakaway steals vs the average opponent, per Haslametrics. Both teams struggle with quick points allowed off second-chance offensive rebounds, as well.

The fast-paced RedHawks (41st in schedule-adjusted tempo) will push the Bulls into another high-possession game on Tuesday. Embrace the MACtion!
