Michigan Wins First Four
The Michigan Wolverines bring their spotless 4-0 record into the Player's Era Festival. They have only gone 1-3 against the spread, including a game against Wake Forest where they were favored by 15 but only won by one on a neutral court. Their best win came in a true road game against TCU where they were favored by 7.5, but pulled out just a four point win. Just as most major conference teams have done, the Wolverines loaded up with talent from the transfer portal for Head Coach Dusty May's second year on campus.
The Wolverines are expecting big things out of Yaxel Lendeborg, he is a 6'9, 240 pound senior forward who transferred in after two strong seasons at UAB. He averaged a double-double last season with 17.7 PPG and 11.4 RPG and will look to continue that dominant play in the paint this season. Lendeborg is their leading scorer so far at 15.0 PPG, and has improved his three-point shot while hitting a career high 1.5 threes per game. Morez Johnson Jr. transferred in-conference from Illinois. The 6'9, 250-pound sophomore is averaging 13.3 PPG and 7.5 RPG to start the year. Trey McKenney has been their top perimeter scorer, the true freshman guard stands 6'4 and is averaging 10.8 PPG after being a McDonald's All-American last season.
Michigan is ranked 15th overall out of 365 Division I teams according to KenPom. They are 43rd in offensive efficiency and 6th in defensive efficiency. They play relatively fast, ranking 52nd in the nation in pace of play.
Tigers Must Rebuild
The Auburn Tigers lost four players who were averaging over 10.0 points per game from last season's dominant team, including big man Johni Broome, who averaged 18.6 PPG and is now on the 76ers roster. The rebuild has gone well, as they are still ranked 22nd in the nation, and meshed their returning players with some high-level transfers to form a strong squad. Their one loss on the season came against #1 Houston, losing by just one point as 7.5-point underdogs. Bruce Pearl recently stepped down from his coaching spot, with his son, Steven Pearl, now running the show.
The Tigers will have to go through the early part of this tournament without Keyshawn Hall. He was the leading scorer at UCF last season and one of the top transfers coming into Auburn. Hall is battling an ankle injury, but was averaging 23.2 PPG through his first four games this year. Keshawn Murphy is a strong big man in the middle. The 6'10, 230-pound senior is averaging 14.3 PPG and 6.7 RPG this year after coming over from Mississippi State in the offseason. Tahaad Pettiford tested the NBA waters last season after Auburn's impressive year. He is back again as a 6'1 sophomore guard, scoring 10.8 PPG and adding 3.4 APG.
Auburn is ranked 23rd overall according to KenPom. They are 17th in offensive efficiency and 40th in defensive efficiency. They play slower than Michigan on most nights, ranking 140th in tempo.

Michigan vs. Auburn Picks and Predictions
Spread pick for Michigan vs. Auburn
- Auburn +3.5 (5 units)
These games are playing their second game in two nights, and I will lean to the team that has the more favorable schedule due to this quick turnaround. Michigan is playing at 10:30 EST on Monday night against San Diego State (42nd overall in KenPom), while Auburn is playing at 8:00 EST against Oregon (59th overall in KenPom). So, Auburn has more time to recover and is playing the slightly easier opponent on the previous night. The Tigers are getting points here because Hall is out, but that will not matter much as this Tigers roster has been rebuilt to survive without him. Pettiford is a future pro, and KeShawn Murphy has the size and experience to battle the Michigan post players. Take the points in this one.
Take Auburn plus the points
Over/Under Pick for Michigan vs. Auburn
- Under 159.5 (4 units)
This game will be played at a slow pace, and possibly in a sloppy style as these teams are both playing less than 24 hours before tipoff against strong competition. Auburn is without its top scorer, as Hall was getting 23.2 PPG this season, scoring at least 20 points in every game so far. They will want to slow the game down even more without him, which will not be hard, as Auburn is 140th in pace of play and already does not play at a breakneck pace. Neither team scored 68 or more when Michigan took on TCU, while neither team hit 75 when Auburn battled Houston. Their defenses have been stepping up against stronger teams, and the same will happen here.
Take the under.
