Nevada hits the road for the first time this season
The Nevada Wolf Pack (3-0; 1-2 ATS; 2-1 O/U) started their 2025-26 campaign with three straight home wins. After a 77-50 thrashing of Louisiana Tech, the Wolf Pack barely outlasted Pacific 78-77 and Southern Illinois 86-81 in overtime.
Last Wednesday, the Wolf Pack survived the scare but failed to cover an 11.5-point spread. They shot just 35.0% from the field (8-for-33 from deep) against the resilient Southern Illinois team. Senior guard Tayshawn Comer led the way with 23 points and seven assists, while sophomore forward Elijah Price posted a double-double of 17 points and 19 rebounds.
The Wolf Pack returned just 17.3% of minutes played and 13.6% of scoring from their 2024-25 roster. Nevada scores 106.0 points per 100 possessions (170th in the country) and allows 102.0 points in return (88th). The Wolf Pack make just 26.5% of their shots from deep (302nd).
Santa Clara just routed Xavier on the road
The Santa Clara Broncos (3-0; 2-0 ATS; 1-1 O/U) opened the season with a couple of home wins over Humboldt State 83-53 and McNeese 79-67. Last Monday, the Broncos hit the road and stunned Xavier 87-68 as 3.5-point underdogs.
Santa Clara held Xavier to 33.9% shooting from the field (5-for-18 from deep). The Broncos made 54.7% of their field goals (5-for-13 from deep) while outscoring the Musketeers 52-22 in the paint. Senior forward Elijah Mahi led the charge with 18 points and three assists, and sophomore guard Christian Hammond had 15 points and three rebounds.
The Broncos returned 29.7% of minutes played and 24.8% of scoring from their 2024-25 roster. Santa Clara tallies 111.7 points per 100 possessions (77th in the country) and yields 101.6 points in return (81st). The Broncos make 38.6% of their shots from beyond the arc (70th).
Nevada vs. Santa Clara Pick
Spread Pick for Nevada vs. Santa Clara
- Nevada +6.5 (5 units)
This game will be a joy to watch. The Broncos must be fired up to get revenge for that heavy defeat at Nevada in 2024-25. Both teams are doing a great job on the glass this time around, and we’ll see the clash of two completely different styles. The Broncos prefer to push the ball in transition, whereas the Wolf Pack love to take things slowly.
I expect the Broncos to get revenge in front of the home audience, but covering a 6.5-point spread might be a tall task. Nevada takes great care of the ball (19th in the country in turnover percentage, 11.0%), and the Wolf Pack love to attack the rim. Santa Clara is 323rd in defensive free-throw rate (.533), so I’m backing the Wolf Pack to keep it close and beat the number.
Over/Under Pick for Nevada vs. Santa Clara
- Over 148.5 (5 units)
Nevada registers just 67.7 possessions per 40 minutes (345th in the country), whereas Santa Clara records 72.0 possessions per 40 minutes (124th). The Broncos are fourth in the country in offensive rebound percentage (48.7%), but the Wolf Pack rank 22nd in defensive rebound percentage (78.8%).
Hereof, the total looks like a tricky wager in this matchup. Nevada will try its best to slow things down and force Santa Clara into half-court basketball, but the Wolf Pack will also attack the rim a lot and get to the foul line frequently. As I noted, the Broncos have struggled to keep their rivals off the charity stripe thus far.
I will ride the betting trends and take the over. Six of Santa Clara’s last eight games overall and 10 of Nevada’s previous 15 have gone over the total. Also, the over is 4-1 in their last five head-to-head duels.
