The New Mexico Lobos (21-6, 12-4 MW) and the Nevada Wolf Pack (18-9, 10-6 MW) will play a late night showdown in the Mountain West on Tuesday in this New Mexico vs. Nevada prediction. These teams met earlier this season with New Mexico winning 80-73 at home but failing to cover as 8.5-point favorites. New Mexico just beat Fresno State 80-78 on the road as 9.5-point favorites, while Nevada is coming off a home win over Utah State 80-77 as 4.5-point dogs. Tipoff is set for 11:00 EST and can be found on CBSSN. See below for our New Mexico vs. Nevada prediction, and make some money with our best NCAAB Betting Picks!

New Mexico is on the BubbleΒ

The New Mexico Lobos are trying to fight their way into the NCAA Tournament without needing to win their conference tourney. At this point, Joe Lunardi is projecting that only one Mountain West team will make the Big Dance, but that could change as he also has New Mexico listed in his First Four Out section. They are currently tied for second in the league with San Diego State, as both as just one game behind Utah State at the top.

In their last game, New Mexico was led by Jake Hall with 20 points in their tight road win over Fresno State. Hall is their top scorer, and an elite outside shooter as a freshman guard. He is scoring 15.9 PPG, and leads the team with 83 made threes on a red hot 44.6% shooting from beyond the arc. Hall has scored 19 or more in three of his last four games. Tomislav Buljan is a 6'8 freshman forward who came over from Croatia, he leads the team with 9.8 RPG while adding another 11.9 PPG. Buljan does most of his work in the paint as he only has four threes on the season. Deyton Albury is their 6'2 senior point guard contributing another 11.6 PPG with 3.2 APG.

New Mexico is currently ranked 43rd out of 365 Division I teams according to KenPom. They are 60th in offensive efficiency and 40th in defensive efficiency. They play at a relatively fast pace, ranking 66th in the country in tempo.

Wolf Pack Look to Spoil Again

The Nevada Wolf Pack are not in a position to expect an at-large bid, but they can play the role of the spoiler against the top teams in their conference. They are coming off a big win against Utah State, which is the team at the top of the Mountain West standings, and now have another chance to help burst a bubble if they can take down New Mexico here. In their last game, Nevada was led by Corey Camper Jr. with 20 points in the win.

Camper is a 6'5 senior guard leading the team in scoring with 17.7 PPG, and also their top outside shooter with 57 made threes on 45.2% shooting from deep. Camper played with UTEP in each of the last two seasons, but is now the top man in Nevada. Elijah Price is their top frontcourt player, the 6'9 athletic sophomore is contributing 12.8 PPG and 8.9 RPG in his first season with the team since transferring over from Fresno State. Their final scorer in double figures is another transfer, as Tayshawn Comer is a 6'1 senior guard getting 12.4 PPG in his first year after coming over from Evansville.

Nevada is currently ranked 67th overall according to KenPom. They are 62nd in offensive efficiency and 101st in defensive efficiency. They play much slower than New Mexico, ranking 290th in the country in pace of play.

New Mexico vs. Nevada Picks and Predictions

Spread pick for New Mexico vs. Nevada

  • Β  New Mexico to cover (5 units)

This is going to be a let down game for Nevada, as they are riding high after just defeating the top team in the conference. The win over Utah State was impressive, but this New Mexico team already beat them once, and is trying to improve their resume for a tournament bid. New Mexico beat Nevada earlier this season, and their freshman are only getting better with more experience as Hall and Buljan are both still in their first year of college basketball. Buljan is a bully on the inside, and Hall can shoot from anywhere, they get another win here.

Take New Mexico to cover.

Over/Under Pick for New Mexico vs. Nevada

  • Β  Over (4 units)

New Mexico put up 80 last time they faced Nevada, and will put up another big number here as they are a team that likes to push the tempo. The Lobos are the better team, and will be able to control the tempo in this one, as they rank 66th out of 365 Division I teams in pace of play. Hall and Camper are each the top scorer on their team, and also the best outside shooters on their team, which means we could be in for a shootout between these two. Expect a fast paced game here.

Take the over.
