Old Dominion couldn't get a stop last game
Old Dominion (2-2 SU, 0-3 ATS, and 2-1 O/U) lost to Miami-Ohio in its season opener and to George Washington in its most recent game, with wins over Randolph and Morgan State sandwiched between. The Monarchs fell 96-73 to GW on Saturday, failing to cover the spread as 14.5-point underdogs. ODU only trailed by three at halftime, but was outscored by 20 points after that. They were sloppy with the basketball (16 turnovers) and committed too many fouls (GW shot 39 free throws).
The Monarchs average 74.5 points per game (299th) on 44.9 percent shooting (208th), including 29.8 percent from three-point range (277th). They also shoot 74.1 percent at the charity stripe (109th). Their opponents score 73.3 points per game (134th) on 40.7 percent shooting (121st), including 28.9 percent from beyond the arc (108th).
Old Dominion was picked to finish fifth in the Sun Belt Conference preseason coaches’ poll. ODU's 2025-26 roster features nine returners and seven newcomers. Junior guard Robert Davis Jr. was named the Sun Belt’s Preseason Player of the Year after averaging 15.6 points per game last season. A few other Monarchs to watch against Xavier are senior guard KC Shaw (15.8 PPG), senior guard LJ Thomas (14.3 PPG, 4.5 RPG, and 4.3 APG), and senior guard Jordan Battle (9.0 PPG and 5.5 RPG).
Old Dominion Monarchs Basketball Injury Report: No injuries to report for Tuesday's NCAAB game against Xavier.
Xavier is off to a slow start offensively
Xavier (2-2 SU, 0-4 ATS, and 1-2-1 O/U) beat Marist and Le Moyne in its first two games, but lost to Santa Clara and Iowa in its last two games. The Musketeers fell 81-62 to the Hawkeyes, failing to cover the spread as 15.5-point underdogs. They shot 39 percent from the field (24% from deep) and were dominated on the glass (-17 rebounding margin). Iowa hit 57 percent of its field goal attempts and outscored Xavier 50-26 in the paint.
Xavier averages 67.5 points per game (346th) on 37.4 percent shooting (348th), including 32.4 percent from beyond the arc (213th). The Musketeers also knock down 69.8 percent of their free throws (206th). Their opponents score 74.8 points per game (144th) on 53.3 percent shooting (362nd), including 34.5 percent from downtown (254th).
The 2025-26 Xavier basketball team is led by first-year head coach Richard Pitino, who coached New Mexico to the NCAA Tournament last season. The Musketeers return no scholarship players for the first time in program history. Three players average double-digit points: senior guard Tre Carroll (13.8 PPG and 4.5 RPG), senior guard Roddie Anderson III (13.5 PPG), and senior guard Malik Messina-Moore (10.5 PPG and 3.3 APG). Senior forward Filip Borovicanin (6.8 PPG and 5.5 RPG) is another player to watch against Old Dominion.

Old Dominion vs. Xavier Pick and Preview
Spread Pick for ODU vs. Xavier
- Old Dominion covers (4 Units)
In a matchup between teams still seeking their first ATS win of the season, I'm taking the points with Old Dominion. The Musketeers average less than 70 points per game and lack the continuity and depth you want from a team laying points after two losses. It's not like they have been stout defensively, either, as their opponents are shooting over 50 percent from the field. Pitino is a good coach, but it will take him time to build a winner in the Big East. The Musketeers failed to cover as spread favorites in their first three opportunities and will fall short again tomorrow. Bet on Old Dominion to cover!
Over/Under Pick for ODU vs. Xavier
- Under (5 Units)
These teams don't inspire much confidence offensively. The Monarchs have just three players scoring at least nine points per game, while the Musketeers have three double-digit scorers. The visitors rank 273rd in assist/turnover ratio, as well. That isn't likely to result in a high-scoring matchup. Both squads are comfortable playing at a slower tempo, too. Xavier averages 71.6 possessions per game (223rd), while ODU averages 71.4 (232nd).
