Ole Miss averages 74.2 points per game (263rd) on 43.9 percent shooting (265th), including 34.1 percent from beyond the arc (178th). Texas ranks fifth nationally in free-throw attempt rate
Texas (14-9 SU, 13-9 ATS, and 13-9 O/U) beat South Carolina 83-75 on Tuesday, failing to cover as 13.5-point spread favorites. The Horns worked their way to the foul line often (29-for-36 at the charity stripe) and dominated on the glass, outrebounding the Gamecocks 40-25 with 17 offensive rebounds. It was a close affair, though, as USC shot 50 percent overall and scored 46 points in the paint. They also knocked down 19 of their 24 free-throw attempts. Had they been able to hit more threes (2-for-11), they may have pulled off the road upset.
The Longhorns enter Saturday's action winners of two straight and three of their last four games. They are ranked tenth in the SEC with a 5-5 conference record. Texas scores 85.5 points per game (48th) on 49.2 percent shooting (26th), including 34.7 percent from three-point distance (144th). Defensively, the Horns allow 74.9 points per game (189th) on 43.3 percent shooting (149th), including 35.0 percent from beyond the arc (274th). KenPom ranks UT 33rd in the country, including 7th in offensive efficiency and 98th in defensive efficiency.
Texas is paced offensively by junior guard Dailyn Swain, who averages 17.7 points per game on 57.7 percent shooting. He also contributes 7.3 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game. A few other Longhorns stars to watch against Ole Miss are 7-foot sophomore center Matas Vokietaitis (14.8 PPG and 6.7 RPG), senior guard Tramon Mark (13.1 PPG and 3.6 RPG), and senior guard Jordan Pope (12.5 PPG and 2.2 APG).

Ole Miss vs. Texas Pick and Preview
Spread Pick for Ole Miss vs. Texas
- Longhorns -9.5 (5 Units)
Ole Miss is in a downward spiral, while Texas is on the upswing. The Horns are a well-rounded team that can bang down low (17th in near-proximity shooting %) and hit shots from the perimeter. They also get to the free-throw line at the fifth-highest rate in the country, which will be key against a Rebs team that has fouled at the highest rate in conference play. Texas is 2nd in both eFG% and offensive efficiency in SEC play, as well. The Rebels are 14th in the conference in eFG%, ranking last in free-throw rate and two-point percentage, and third-lowest in offensive rebounding percentage. Ole Miss is also 238th in Haslametrics' Away from Home metric this season.
With significant rebounding and offensive advantages, the Longhorns will cover the 9.5-point spread!
Over/Under Pick for Ole Miss vs. Texas
- Under 147 (5 Units)
Betting Trend: The under is 4-1 in Ole Miss's last five games.
I'm skeptical that Mississippi can score enough buckets to help push the total over 147 points. They attempt too many mid-range shots and don't make up for it by hitting a high percentage of threes or buckets at the rim. They haven't been getting to the foul line much in SEC play, either. UT allows its opponents to take a lot of mid-range shots, but holds them to 33 percent shooting, the 16th-lowest percentage in the country.
The Rebels will do all they can to keep the score close on defense, though. They're top-50 in near-proximity defense and force their opponents into many three-point attempts, which could work for stretches of Saturday's action. If they can keep the Longhorns from getting too comfortable in the paint, they'll at least prevent them from dominating from start to finish.
