Oregon State Adjusts to New Home
The Oregon State Beavers were left without a home in the wake of the collapse of the Pac-12. Their first season in the West Coast Conference was tough to judge, as they got blown out by Loyola Marymount, but also scored a win over Gonzaga. So far this season, the Beavers are 3-0, but this is their first true road game, as the Beavers will need to prove their worth against their in-state rival. In their last game, the Beavers got 10 points and six boards from sophomore big man Johan Munch.
Munch is a 6'11 sophomore out of Denmark, he played in 23 games last season but his role has increased this season as he is now their starting center, getting 9.7 PPG and 6.3 RPG on the inside. The team only has one player averaging in double figures, as Josiah Lake II is now a junior with the team and is getting 14.0 PPG through their first three games. Lake scored 6.9 PPG last season for the Beavers, but is now their top scorer in his junior year. Isaiah Sy is a 6'7 forward out of France who adds another 8.7 PPG.
Oregon State ranks 139th overall out of 365 Division I teams according to KenPom. They are 113th in offensive efficiency and 177th in defensive efficiency. The Beavers play at one of the slowest paces in the league, ranking 342nd in tempo.

Ducks Survive Tight Games
The Oregon Ducks are a Big Ten school with Nike money that is expected to let them compete with any of the top teams in the nation. They have played three games so far, and are luckily 3-0 while surviving tightly contested matchups on their way to this game. The Ducks only beat Hawaii by one, and Rice by four in games that were expected to be blowouts. In their last game, Oregon got 22 points and eight assists from Jackson Shelstad in the win over South Dakota State.
Shelstad is their 6'1 junior guard who has been a starter since setting foot in Eugene two seasons ago. He has been a double-figure scorer throughout his entire career and is scoring a career high 16.5 PPG to start this year with the Ducks. The best player on the team is their 7'0 senior center, Nate Bittle, he is contributing 17.0 PPG and 10.7 RPG to start the season. Bittle has a smooth inside-out game, but does most of his damage in the paint. Takai Simpkins came over from Elon for his final season of college hoops. He is a 6'4 senior guard getting 14.3 PPG through the first three games.
Oregon is ranked 56th overall according to KenPom. They are 93rd in offensive efficiency and 21st in defensive efficiency. The Ducks play faster than the Beavers, ranking 151st in pace of play.
Oregon State vs. Oregon Picks and Predictions
Spread pick for Oregon State vs. Oregon
- Oregon to cover (5 units)
The Oregon Ducks have been underrating their opponents all season, but will not continue that trend as they face their in-state rival in this matchup. Oregon played Hawaii and Rice closer than expected, but will be up for this game against the Beavers and show their true potential. The best two players on the floor will be wearing Oregon jerseys, as Shelstad is the best perimeter player, and no one on Oregon State can match up with Bittle on the inside. Oregon will make a statement here, as they are focused on going into their future date with Auburn.
Take Oregon to win and cover.
Over/Under Pick for Oregon State vs. Oregon
- Over (4 units)
These teams have been waiting for their first big game, and will not slow down their offenses in this one. Oregon State is on the road, and only 177th in defensive efficiency; this will be a problem against this Oregon squad which has scorers inside and out. The Beavers do not have a big man on the inside to stop Bittle, which means the Ducks will be able to run their offense through him to put up a strong total. On the other side, Bittle is not much of a rim protector, so the Beavers will be better served to play fast and attack the basket. This will be a high-scoring game.
Take the over.
