Long trip for a test
After a tune-up win over Life Pacific, the Tigers lost 78-77 at Nevada and then beat Long Beach State 69-66 and Fullerton 85-73.
Pacific is 154th in the KenPom rankings overall. They are 146th in adjusted offensive efficiency and 193rd on defense. Elias Ralph, a 6’7 returning senior, leads the team with 16 points and 7.8 rebounds per game. Ralph has also knocked down 55.6% of his threes this season.
Pacific has only faced the 242nd toughest schedule according to KenPom, and this long road trip will be a challenge.
Owls back at home
The FAU Owls have wins over Boston College 83-78, and Charleston 94-77, and a loss to Liberty 88-68 in their games against Division competition. The loss to Liberty was on Nov.9 and was the second day in a row that FAU played. On Monday, the Owls had a tune-up against Coastal Georgia and won 92-63.
In the early going, FAU is 132nd in the KenPom ratings, 96th in offensive rating, and 206th on the defensive end. Their strength of schedule rates 116th. Devin Vanterpool, a returning 6’4 guard, leads the team with 17.3 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game.
Pacific vs FAU Predictions
ATS Pick for Pacific vs. FAU:
- Pacific +7.5 (4 units)
Although this will be the longest trip Pacific has made this season, they still have played three road games so far and held their own. In the only loss of the season, the Tigers battled to a one-point loss as a 13-point underdog to Nevada. FAU started the season strong, but I give Pacific a slight edge on the boards and in their perimeter shooting, which will allow them to keep this close enough to cover.
Total Pick for Pacific vs. FAU:
- Over 157 (4 units)
Both teams have been better on the offensive end, while the defenses have been middle-of-the-road. With FAU 145th in adjusted tempo and Pacific 185th, we should also see a decent pace. With both teams led by returning players from last season and comfortable in their systems, I am leaning on the offenses and taking the over.
