Competitive at home, Awful on the road
Penn State is 8-6 at home this season and 1-6 on the road. They're coming off a 77-75 loss to USC at home to cover the 2.5 points. That came after a 110-69 road loss at Michigan. They did get their first Big 10 win on Feb. 1 against Minnesota, winningΒ 77-75, which came after losing eight straight games. Former VCU coach Mike Rhodes is 16-37 in the Big 10 since taking over in 2023.
Freddie Dilione V. led the Nittany Lions with 23 points and three steals on 10-of-18 shooting, while Josh Reed added 17 points. PSU shot 52% from the field, but they turned the ball over 15 times. Penn State is dealing with several injuries, including forward Eli Rice (6-8, 230), who was averaging 7.9 points and shooting 45.9% from three-point range (39-of-85). He's questionable with a head injury. Dilione leads the Nittany Lions with 14.5 points per game, while Kayden Mingo adds 13.4 points.
According to KenPom, Penn State ranks 129th overall, 75th in Adjusted Offensive Efficiency and 248th in Adjusted Defensive Efficiency. They are also 307th in Total Rebound Rate.

Injuries have hampered the Huskies all season
Washington isn't that bad of shape despite having a 4-9 record in the Big 10. But injuries have devastated this team, forcing them to play with 10 players. That's not incredibly unusual this time of the season. Despite losing two straight games to Iowa at home (84-74) and UCLA (77-73) on Saturday, the Huskies are not out of the NCAA Tournament picture. Currently, theyβre 45th in KenPom and 51st in NET, with some tough games coming up, so they can either move up the ladder or down it.
Freshman guard JJ Mandaquit (5.2 PPG, 3.2 APG) has missed the last two games and is likely out for the season. Senior guard Desmond Claude (13.3 PPG) has played just 12 games and might also miss the season due to an ankle injury. Fortunately, the Huskies still have Hannes Steinbach (17.5 PPG, 11.2 RPG) and Zoom Diallo (14.9 PPG, 4.5 APG). This is a team that relies on its rebounding (35th in rebound rate), because they don't shoot it well from three-point range (32.6%).
Spread Pick and Prediction for Penn State vs. Washington
Penn State vs. Washington Picks and Odds
- Penn State +12.5 (4 units)
Penn State has had a rough season, but it's not like they're playing Michigan or Illinois. Washington hasn't been a double-digit favorite since it played Utah on Dec. 29 and did not cover the 11.5. That's also when they had Desmond Claude. Penn State shoots the ball well, making 46.8% from the field, while Washington ranks 161st in field goal defense. Washington has won just two of their last eight games, so there is no reason it should be a big favorite in this matchup.
Over/Under Pick for Penn State vs. Washington
- Over 154.5 (4 units)
Penn State averages 77 points per game on the road, but on defense, they are allowing 90.4 points per game, along with 57.2% field goal defense and 45.5% from three-point range away from home. Penn State is average at tempo at 182nd, while the Huskies are 200th. Penn State has gone over in six of their last seven games and has allowed an average of 96 points per game in their last four road contests.
