Pepperdine hopes to avoid its third straight L
The Pepperdine Waves (3-4; 2-3 ATS; 2-3 O/U) have won three of their first seven games in 2025-26, but only one of those three wins has come against a Division I team. Ten days ago, Pepperdine beat New Orleans 90-79 as a 5.5-point home fave.
Since then, the Waves have dropped consecutive games against Stephen F. Austin 63-60 at home and Fresno State 76-53 at the neutral site. Last Wednesday, Pepperdine made just 31.2% of its field goals and committed 10 more turnovers than Fresno State (17-7).
The Waves have four players with points per game in double figures, including junior guard Aaron Clark (14.7 PPG, 3.1 RPG) and senior wing Javon Cooley (13.6 PPG, 6.1 RPG). Pepperdine scores 100.9 points per 100 possessions (301st in the country) and allows 109.0 points in return (200th).
Cal State Fullerton is back on the losing track
The Cal State Fullerton Titans (2-5; 3-3 ATS; 4-2 O/U) put an end to their four-game losing streak last Saturday, beating St. Thomas-Minnesota 88-80 in the Portland Invitational. The next day, CSUF suffered a 97-93 defeat against Northern Colorado at Chiles Center in Portland, OR.
The Titans stunned the Tommies as 12.5-point underdogs, and senior guard Joshua Ward led the charge with 20 points and six assists. CSUF covered an 8.5-point spread against Northern Colorado, and Ward went off for 31 points.
Ward tallies 15.6 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game, while freshman guard Bryce Cofield adds 14.9 points, 4.7 boards, and 2.9 assists a night. Cal State Fullerton scores 98.6 points per 100 possessions (342nd) and yields 113.2 points in return (313th).
Pepperdine vs. Cal State Fullerton Pick
Spread Pick for Pepperdine vs. Cal State Fullerton
- Pepperdine -3.5 (5 units)
We’ll see a couple of bad teams, and this game could easily go either way. Pepperdine’s shooting from the field has been awful this season. The Waves make 45.2% of their 2-pointers (319th in the country) and 26.6% of their 3-pointers (338th). The Titans have struggled, too, making 51.2% of their 2-pointers (199th) and 28.0% of their 3-pointers (311th).
The Waves are listed as 3.5-point favorites because of their defense. Pepperdine looks like a better defensive team than CSUF, and the Waves certainly have a height advantage in this matchup.
I expect a tight battle down the stretch. The Waves make 76.7% of their free throws (41st), while the Titans shoot 71.1% from the foul line (184th). Free throws could easily make the difference in a game like this one. Pepperdine is 49th in the country in defensive free-throw rate (.279), whereas CSUF ranks 262nd in this category (.414).
Over/Under Pick for Pepperdine vs. Cal State Fullerton
- Over 158.5 (5 units)
I’m looking for a proper high-scoring affair, even though both teams struggle with shooting from the field. The Titans take good care of the ball (22nd in turnover percentage, 13.7%) and love to play at a fast pace. They register 74.7 possessions per 40 minutes (9th).
The Titans are 345th in offensive rebound percentage (22.7%). They just love to play fast, and the Waves won’t mind joining the party. Pepperdine tallies 69.7 possessions per 40 minutes (169th).
Cal State Fullerton’s defense has been pretty bad this season. The Titans have allowed at least 80 points in each of their seven outings.
